We recently connected with Asa Lecourbier and have shared our conversation below.
Asa, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Confidence comes from self trust, your childhood, and gaining life experience. I was fortunate to be blessed with a great mother who gave me positive reinforcement through my self doubt. I remember watching Reading Rainbow, Word Girl and The Electric Company as a kid. Those shows planted a seed in me that showed me life is an adventure. I don’t know what kids are watching nowadays because of the access we have to the media, but shows like that are beneficial to molding a child’s mind to have confidence and self esteem. Staying away from negative people is great too. Nine times out of ten they’re jealous of the qualities they see in you. Keeping good people around you is key, and you need to use discernment to figure that out.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In March, I launched my luxury streetwear brand called Lecourbier. I started the brand because I always had an eye for fashion, creativity means a lot to me, I wanted my art to be wearable instead of being stationary, and being an entrepreneur is exciting. 90% of the clothing pieces are made using my hand drawn artwork as graphics and stickers. If you’re a skater, rockstar, nostalgia lover, hustler, a creative person, an art lover, creative kid, or a person with integrity you’ll love the work I’m putting out with Lecourbier. I’m also the first luxury streetwear brand owner to have an r&b mixtape dedicated to my clothing brand. It’s a ten track long soulful and exciting listen, with an intro, outro, and a interlude included. It’s called The Lecourbier Experience and it’s exclusively on Youtube and Soundcloud.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The ability to draw was definitely important, the ability to listen (being able to gain wisdom from others), and being willing to take risks which may result in failure. Learning to draw is a skill that can be trained over time. Natural talent exists but putting in work over time matters most. The ability to listen is important because you can save yourself a headache just by listening. Taking risk is important because, as cliché as it is to say without risk, there is no reward.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Definitely my confidence, ability to get things done, and my ambition. I feel like I could build a rocket to Pluto if I wanted to.
