Meet Asean Townsend

We recently connected with Asean Townsend and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Asean, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Being a point guard from a young age, I always knew that helping others reach their dreams/ “buckets” (colloquially speaking) was my purpose. I knew that it brought me immense joy to help others, and through doing that repeatedly, I realized that this is what I am here to do.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My real name is Asean, and I am professionally known as Quick. If you’re my friend, you probably call me Sean or Steez. I do all the strategic thinking, artist development, marketing, roadmapping, and decision-making for my record label, BxE Records. The most exciting part of doing what I do is actually the part I don’t do – the creation of the music. That part of things is so special to me because I love being there when the artist attempts to convey the emotion they felt when they wrote something to the booth and then to the consumer. It excites me because it is a compelling process. I believe artists have a responsibility to the world to make their words serve a purpose to a certain extent, so I like being present as people execute that.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Resilience. Clarity. Leadership.

Be resilient in your dedication to your vision. Have clarity in how you see success for yourself and whoever is on the journey with you. Lead those that are doing this with you, or be led. Most leaders know that there will be times in their lives when they have to do both.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

My current teammates at BxE – 3amsoundz, Veli Vision, and Preddie are incredible, and I’m forever grateful for their presence and contributions to our legacy. We are like the 2016 Warriors, and I’m Draymond! On the other hand, BxE Records is always looking for artists, A&Rs, publicists, producers, etc., to collaborate with us on the growth of the label. At our core, we are looking for people who love music, not money, not clout, not the perks of being “lit” but people who truly love MUSIC. Additionally, we are looking for potential teammates who are good people and have respect for what it means to be a part of a team and chase the dream – individually and collectively.
