Ashish, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I believe that difficulties are a guise for opportunity. That is why, growing up, I believed that determination and creative problem-solving could turn even the most challenging circumstances into success stories. Being an entrepreneur and an avid racing fan has taught me that setbacks are part of the journey, not the end. Hitting those boundaries on or off the track adds to my motivation to keep striving for better. I also draw strength from the incredible people around me-teamwork and shared goals remind me of what is possible when we combine passion with perseverance. Optimism, for me, is a mindset and a choice.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Ashish Fernando, Co-founder of Turn1 that develops and sells carbon fiber high-performance parts for premium motorcycles such as Ducati and BMW. My passion for speed combined with the entrepreneurial spirit enables me to innovate and design products that add both style and performance. What amazes me the most with my work is the blend of craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology, where every part we make not only serves a purpose but is also an art form that will inspire riders. Our brand has stood for precision, quality, and a direct connection with the motorcycle world. It’s not only a matter of technicality; it’s about giving riders the confidence to push themselves to their limits. Currently, we are focusing on increasing our product line for other motorcycle brands and introducing limited-edition collections especially designed for racing enthusiasts. Our aspiration is to fire up passion in all riders around the world-on the track or through our products.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three most impactful qualities that have helped me in my journey would be resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Resilience helped me stay focused through challenges, seeing obstacles as opportunities for growth. Adaptability allowed me to pivot and embrace change, especially in a fast-evolving industry like motorcycle parts manufacturing. Continuous learning-encompassing technical skills, market trends, and customer needs-means I’m always staying ahead. I would recommend embracing failure as a teacher, staying curious, and being open to feedback. In fact, building a strong network is also investment, as most collaborations open doors to new opportunities or provide invaluable insights- stay passionate and persistent!
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
Turn1’s audience consists of affluent, performance-focused motorcycle enthusiasts aged 25–55, primarily professionals and business owners with a passion for high-end brands like Ducati and BMW. They value exclusivity, craftsmanship, and performance, seeing motorcycles as a lifestyle. With disposable income, they prioritize quality over cost and invest in premium, durable, and stylish upgrades. These detail-oriented customers are loyal, research-driven, and influenced by social proof, often shopping online. Engagement can be encouraged through precision, design excellence, exclusivity, sleek branding, storytelling, and targeted promotions. Reviews and community engagement can also increase trust and stimulate both planned and impulse purchasing.
