We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashleigh Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashleigh , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
Keeping my creativity alive is easy when I’m surrounded by so much community support. Places like Handmade on Main, The Dough Station, and The Art Space 830 give Crazy Plant Lovee a space to grow, share, and connect. Each collaboration, workshop, and market keeps the ideas flowing and inspires me to keep creating beautiful plant projects to share with others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My business, Crazy Plant Lovee, is all about sharing the joy of plants through creative workshops, markets, and handmade plant arrangements.
I love helping others connect with nature in fun, hands-on ways from succulent pumpkins and terrariums to our summer camp, Camp Rooted!
You can now find me at The Art Space 830, where I sell plants and host many of my workshops.
I’m so thankful for inspiring spaces like The Art Space 830, Handmade on Main, and The Dough Station that keep my creativity blooming and help me share what I love with the community.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been creativity, adaptability, and community connection.
Creativity keeps things fresh, finding new ways to share my love for plants through workshops, displays, and handmade pieces. Adaptability has helped me grow through changing seasons and unexpected challenges. And community connection has been everything! Collaborating with other small businesses and meeting so many wonderful people who share the same passion.
For anyone just starting out, I’d say stay curious, stay flexible, and build relationships. Don’t be afraid to try new things, learn as you go, and lean into your local community, that’s where the real magic happens

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is someone who loves plants and creativity just as much as I do. Someone who enjoys getting their hands a little dirty, learning something new, and creating something beautiful in the process. They appreciate handmade, upcycled, and meaningful pieces, and they value the experience as much as the finished product. Whether it’s a workshop, a market find, or a custom plant arrangement, my favorite clients are the ones who show up excited to connect, create, and grow alongside me.
