We recently connected with Ashley Canzater and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a fond love for art and design. I vividly remember walking home from 8th grade and rushing to my parents room to use their computer. I would log into MySpace and teach myself how to code various page designs. I had a new page every week once I learned how coding worked.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Reared in the heart of Columbia, SC, I grew up with an unexplainable affinity for crafts and the arts. If you’ve ever worked with me, you know how much I love scribbling! I graduated from The Art Institute in Charleston, South Carolina and earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Upon graduating, I worked for several agencies and organizations as their marketing go-to-girl. Ultimately, like my early drawings in grade school, I ventured outside of the lines to create my own portrait for happiness. In 2015, I launched AshleyCanDesign. Since, I have accelerated many companies by helping them attract attention with my clean and creative design aesthetics.
When I’m not designing or strategizing with clients, you’ll likely find me “mommy’ing” with my two boys, Michael and Joseph, or binging on Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee (is it obvious from my brand colors I’m a fan of the chain?). I cannot wait to add your name to my portfolio! Won’t you be my client?
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities, skills, and areas of knowledge that have been most impactful in my journey are my ambition, consistency and attention to detail. I always tell others, consistency is key in the pursuit of being successful in your field. Any thing that you want to be great at, you must show up to consistently and confidently in order to perfect your craft.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I take a break from designing. The break may only be for a few hours, but it allows me to focus on other things and I normally feel rejuvenated and more creative when I return.
