Meet Ashley Chickman

We recently connected with Ashley Chickman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
Once upon a time, I found myself engulfed in the chaotic whirlwind of modern life. Every day felt like a marathon, a constant struggle to keep up with the demands of work, relationships, and personal growth. I was stretched thin, constantly pulled in multiple directions, with no clear sense of purpose or direction. It was a suffocating feeling, a sensation of drowning in the sea of my own responsibilities and expectations.

But then, one day, I reached a breaking point. I realized that I couldn’t continue living this way, that something needed to change. And so began my journey towards self-care and mindfulness.

I started small, with simple practices like meditation and mindful eating. Slowly but surely, I began to carve out moments of stillness and peace amidst the chaos. I delved into spiritual healing, exploring different modalities and techniques to nourish my soul and reconnect with my inner self. Therapy provided me with invaluable support and guidance, helping me untangle the knots of my mind and emotions.

Art became a refuge, a means of expression and release. I poured my thoughts and feelings onto canvas, allowing creativity to flow freely without judgment or expectation. Journaling became a daily ritual, a space where I could pour out my heart and reflect on my journey with honesty and clarity.

Travel became a form of self-discovery, a way to explore new cultures and landscapes while reconnecting with the essence of my being. Each journey brought new insights and revelations, expanding my horizons and deepening my connection to the world around me.

As I immersed myself deeper into this journey of self-care and mindfulness, I began to notice profound shifts in my physical and mental health. I felt more grounded, more centered, and more resilient in the face of life’s challenges. My relationships blossomed, as I learned to communicate more authentically and empathetically with those around me.

But perhaps the most transformative aspect of my journey was the impact it had on my community. As I shared my experiences and insights with others, I witnessed a ripple effect spreading outwards, touching the lives of those around me. Friends and family members began to notice the positive changes in me and sought guidance and support in their own journeys towards self-care and mindfulness.

It was then that I realized my calling – to become a beacon of light and inspiration for others on their path towards holistic well-being. I envisioned a career as a life liaison, a guide and mentor helping others navigate their own journey of self-discovery and transformation.

And so, I set out to create my own path, drawing on my experiences and passions to craft a career that aligned with my values and aspirations. My book, “Adventure Bound Journal Workbook,” became one of the building blocks of this vision, a tool for guiding others on a mindful gratitude adventure towards their highest good.

As I continue on this journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of others and contributing to the greater good of humanity. My self-care routine has not only transformed my own life but has also become a source of inspiration and empowerment for those around me, as together, we forge a path towards a more mindful and compassionate world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Firstly, delving into spiritual holistic health was crucial in fostering a healthy mind-body-spirit connection. This involved exploring various practices such as meditation, yoga, and energy healing to cultivate inner harmony and balance.

Secondly, educating myself on how to live life to its highest purpose was transformative. This encompassed a commitment to continuous learning, whether through reading, attending workshops, or seeking out life experiences that expanded my horizons and deepened my understanding of myself and the world around me.

Lastly, shifting my mindset to one of gratitude was a game-changer. By consciously focusing on the abundance in my life rather than dwelling on scarcity, I experienced profound mental and physical benefits, including increased resilience, optimism, and overall well-being.

For those who are early in their journey, my advice is to approach yourself and others with kindness and patience. This journey towards a more fulfilling life requires effort, grit, grace, and gratitude. Embrace the process, celebrate your progress, and remember that every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your highest potential.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
When the overwhelming wave hits, I turn to a few tried-and-true strategies to find my calm amidst the chaos. First and foremost, I take three deep breaths. It’s amazing how something as simple as regulating our breath can help reset our nervous system and bring us back to center.

Another tool in my arsenal is tapping in affirmations. This involves grounding myself with both feet flat on the ground, spine straight, and engaging in calm, steady breathing. Then, I cross my arms over my chest and tap on my shoulders while repeating a positive affirmation, such as “I am worthy of the love I receive.” It’s incredible how this simple practice can shift my mindset and usher in a sense of calm and empowerment.

And of course, meditation is my go-to when I need to quiet the noise and find clarity. Whether it’s using a guided meditation app, practicing a self-guided meditation, or attending an in-person class, the scientific evidence supporting the positive effects of meditation is undeniable.

But perhaps the most important piece of advice I can offer is to be patient with yourself. What works one day might not work the next, and that’s okay. Allow yourself the space to explore different techniques and find what resonates with you in each moment. Just as life is ever-flowing and changing, so too should our approach to managing overwhelm be fluid and adaptable. Remember, you’re doing the best you can, and it’s okay to give yourself permission to ebb and flow with the rhythms of life.
