We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Cummings recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
Excellent question, for many years I think my incessant generosity came from wanting people to me, this goes back to 6th grade. The popular girls in my class all literally demanded these very expensive “American Girl” dolls, they were $100 each. Again I was in 6th grade- I begged my father because I just felt if I didn’t produce these dolls my “friends “ wouldn’t like me/ play with me anymore. I had literally never asked my father for such an expensive gift- for any occasion. Fast forward to being in my mid twenties, different patterns of “generosity “ emerged, for example grabbing the entire check at dinner to avoid the discomfort of people arguing/ discussing the bill. These are more “people pleasing” behaviors. I am an extremely generous person with my time, resources, attention- by nature; but it’s been a truck road for me to navigate as I have healed my need to please others or try to control situations.
Generosity has always come very natural to me, and with my personal view understanding of the laws of karma I am grateful. I think karma is an unbiased system of checks and balances regarding energy/ intention.
Stay blessed and generous.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have been teaching yoga and meditation for 18 years, I love working with beginners and children. I have been passionate about animals my entire life, so I have just started Mar Vista Dog Walkers, a west side of L.A based dog walking company. I am available for private and small group classes on the west side of Los Angeles, please call or text me!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1.) resiliency. 2.) discernment.
3.) trust yourself.
1.) Resilience- it is imperative, all kinds of problems to solve will arise, stay calm and solve a problem at a time.
2.) Discernment- trust your gut, don’t make hasty decisions that benefit in short term, but could be uncomfortable later. Learn about discernment.
3.) Trust yourself- many decisions won’t feel like the ones you want to make, but you know they are the ones you must make. TRUST YOURSELF.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My Father, Eric Lynn Cummings. May he forever rest in peace.🙏
