Meet Ashley Glantz

We recently connected with Ashley Glantz and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Ashley with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in how I was raised. From a young age, I was taught the value of hard work and the understanding that nothing is simply handed to you. Hard work runs through my family’s history—coming from a lineage of farmers, it feels almost ingrained in me. Growing up, my parents owned their own business, and I was always there, lending a hand at events. This gave me early exposure to the challenges and rewards of being a business owner. I’ve always known I didn’t want to work for someone else, but I also witnessed the dedication my parents put in, which taught me that success would not come easily. One lesson that has stayed with me is that motivation alone isn’t enough—discipline is what truly drives progress.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Second Glantz is a sustainable fashion and jewelry brand with a deep commitment to reducing the harmful effects of fast fashion. Our focus is on curating and reimagining thrifted, vintage, consigned and second-hand clothing and jewelry, giving pre-loved pieces new life while promoting sustainability. We’re passionate about the idea that style doesn’t have to come at the expense of the environment, and we’re committed to offering unique, high-quality clothing that tells a story.

What excites me most about Second Glantz is the opportunity to bring attention to the beauty and value of second-hand fashion. Thrifted and vintage clothing has an authenticity and charm that’s hard to replicate in mass-produced items. Each piece has a history and character, making it more than just an item of clothing but a small piece of the world’s fabric. By choosing second-hand, we’re not only reducing waste but also encouraging people to embrace a more conscious approach to consumption.

One of the things that makes Second Glantz special is our focus on curating timeless, one-of-a-kind pieces that transcend trends. Instead of contributing to the disposable cycle of fast fashion, we’re offering clothing that lasts, with the added bonus of being both unique and sustainable. We carefully source the items, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and craftsmanship. Our customers can shop knowing that they’re investing in pieces that have been selected with care, not only for their aesthetic value but for their sustainability.

Second Glantz is also dedicated to educating our community about the environmental impact of fast fashion and the many benefits of choosing second-hand. We believe in transparency and making the process of shopping sustainably as easy and accessible as possible. From the moment someone shops with us, they know they’re supporting a business that’s actively working to reduce waste, promote ethical sourcing, and encourage a circular economy.

As we look to the future, we’re excited to expand our options and reach more people who are passionate about sustainable fashion. We’re constantly on the lookout for new ways to incorporate vintage and thrifted pieces into our offerings—whether through more partnerships with local stores, adding more consignment clients. finding a local space, expanding our online presence, or creating exclusive curated collections. We’re also looking to host more events that foster a community around second-hand fashion, helping to inspire others to think more critically about their clothing choices.

Ultimately, Second Glantz is more than just a brand—it’s a movement toward a world where fashion is a force for good. By embracing second-hand, we’re proving that fashion can be both stylish and sustainable, helping to create a more eco-conscious future, one thrifted item at a time

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back on my journey with Second Glantz, and life in general, I’d say the three qualities that have been most impactful are dedication, resilience, and self-trust. These have been the foundation for everything I’ve built and continue to build.

1. Dedication: Staying dedicated to the mission and vision of Second Glantz has been a very important part. Things don’t just get done on their own, there are plenty of times even still when I have to force myself to finish a project even when I’m not motivated. The sustainable fashion space can be tough to navigate, especially when you’re going against the grain of fast fashion. There were moments when it would have been easier to take shortcuts or give up, but being deeply committed to making a difference has helped to kept me focused. The work never stops, and when you’re truly dedicated to making a difference, it fuels you to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough.

Advice: If you’re just starting out, don’t rush the process. Develop your vision and stick with it, even when immediate results aren’t visible. It’s that steady, long-term dedication that will always pay off. There are going to be so many people that tell you what you’re doing isn’t working, it’s not possible, or will try to put you down about anything. Keep going.

2. Resilience: There have been countless challenges, from unexpected hurdles to moments of self-doubt. But the key to getting through them has been resilience—refusing to give up when the going gets tough. The journey of building any brand is full of ups and downs, and it’s easy to feel discouraged. What’s most important is to keep going and learn from those setbacks. It’s in those tough moments that growth truly happens.

Advice: Learn to embrace failure and use it as an opportunity to grow. Stay persistent, even when the path isn’t clear. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and help you get through those challenging times. Do not envy or focus on others success, it will only make you discouraged.

3. Trusting in Yourself: This is arguably the most important quality. When you’re working on something that is personal and passion-driven it’s easy to second-guess your decisions or question your abilities. Especially with the loud voices of the world. Trusting in yourself and your intuition is what allows you to take risks and go after what you truly believe in. It’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you’re not doing enough, but learning to trust your own voice and choices is empowering.

Advice: Trust that your unique perspective is valuable, even if it doesn’t look like what others are doing. Believe in your ability to learn and adapt and know that your journey is your own! Don’t ever let fear of making mistakes stop you from moving forward. Mistakes are necessary to building a successful brand.

For anyone early in their journey, my advice would be to nurture these qualities and remember that success isn’t an overnight thing. (rarely!) Dedication, resilience, and self-trust are the traits that will carry you through the difficult times and make the good times even more rewarding. Keep growing, keep learning, and never stop believing in your ability to make an impact on this world.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I’ve learned that one of the best things I can do is take a step back and give myself permission to just relax. It’s so easy to get caught up in the never-ending tasks, especially when you’re passionate about your work, but I’ve realized that taking breaks and having days where I don’t work at all are essential for maintaining balance and preventing burnout.

For me, this might mean stepping away from my computer, going for a walk, or even taking an afternoon to do absolutely nothing, sleeping in, going to the beach, etc. Sometimes it’s hard to allow myself to do that—there’s always a voice in the back of my head reminding me of everything I need to do, but I’ve found that taking those breaks is what allows me to come back refreshed and with more energy and creativity. Rest isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity for long-term success.

I’m still working on fully embracing “doing nothing” days, but I’m getting better at acknowledging that these days are just as important as the productive ones. It’s like hitting the reset button for your mind and body. Without those breaks, it’s easy to get run down or burned out, which isn’t good for you or your work.

My advice for others who are feeling overwhelmed is to schedule regular breaks into your routine and don’t feel guilty about them. You’ll be more effective in the long run if you allow yourself the time to recharge. It might feel strange at first, especially if you’re used to being constantly busy, but the productivity and mental clarity you get after a day of rest are worth it.

It’s all about finding that balance between work and rest.
