Ashley , so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Once i finally understood that my actual power is that no one else can be me , it allowed me to step in to rooms more confidently, and as my most authentic self. Especially when I’m the only one that looks like me. Sometimes it can seem awkward, and have you questioning why am I here, but when you remember whose you are, and that God makes no mistakes, you change your mindset to “I have a purpose and that purpose is powerful”. Alway stay true to who you are and what you represent. What’s for you will never pass you by so enjoy the experiences!

I’m in the Arts & Entertainment industry. Where I cater to Film, Commercial, Stage plays, Live events, etc. I assist with making visions come to life as either a Director, Actress, Producer, Stage Manager, Production Assistant, or Logistics. The most exciting thing about being in this field is the creative process! Seeing the freedom of minds produce amazing projects is priceless. My next lead role acting event will be January 11th 2025 @ MATCH Houston in a phenomenal stage play called LOVE BROUGHT ME BACK written and directed by Joan Montreuil. Also we are now casting for another amazing stage play on mental health called THERAPY written and directed by E’brandia L. Burton- Perry. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Discernment 2. Discipline 3. Faith
You have to understand that everyone doesn’t have your best interests at heart. So it’s important that you know where to be and where NOT to be. The best way to develop these 3 things is to stay grounded in the word. Always keep God first in everything and trust that the best steps you take are the ones ordered through Him.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
Self Sabotage! As much as I’m grateful for everything God has done, doing, and will do, I always find myself feeling like I’ve not done enough to take on some opportunities that come my way. I find myself thinking about why I shouldn’t more than why I should. I’ve said no to certain things I’ve should’ve said yes to. My growth in this industry has definitely been hindered due to fear of failure and imposter syndrome. How I have been fighting through this battle is for sure prayer, and quoting my favorite scripture Psalms 46:5 “God is within her, she will not fail”. Also meditating, yoga, surrounding myself around some amazing souls I call friends, and reading affirmations helps me a lot too.
