Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ashley Lopez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Ashley, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
From my Mother! Being able to pick oneself up after failing is something my mother has instilled in me. She catches me when I fall and hugs me, but she also tells me that I have the spirit to keep going forward. No matter how bad things appear, there is always some hope, no matter how tiny, at the end of the tunnel.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I feel most excited about trying to get a working progress production of “Melanin Envy Magik”. Melanin Envy Magik, a Cris Eli Blak play and directed by Ashley Antonia Lopez, is about a black triplet family trash metal band that enters a metal/punk contest for a $250,000 cash prize. They must compete without the knowledge of their God-fearing parents to earn the cash prize.
Hopefully, the working progress production on “Melanin Envy Magik” can go up in 2025 or 2026. So be on the lookout!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful in my journey were honesty, consideration, and reliability. Honesty is important because one needs to know they can trust you and know you do what you promised. Consideration is important because one needs to be considerate of others, and the world does not revolve around me. Lastly, reliability is also because people need trust that I will show up so they can do their end of the responsibility.
Throughout my journey, honesty, consideration, and reliability were the three attributes that had the biggest effects. Being truthful is crucial because people need to know they can rely on you and that you fulfill your commitments. Since the world does not revolve around me and I must be considerate of others, consideration is crucial. Finally, reliability is also necessary since it gives others confidence that I will fulfill my end of the bargain.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The main obstacle I’m encountering revolves around securing finances for my various projects. I possess a multitude of ideas for films or stage productions, yet insufficient funding halts their realization. Despite this, I persevere with optimism and confidence in my abilities, trusting that sufficient funding will eventually materialize. Patience is key, and I remain hopeful that a viable path will emerge.
