We recently connected with Ashley Mangione and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
As a former classroom teacher and a mom of three, I believe the most crucial skills a student needs in life are having strong reading comprehension skills and effective use of executive functioning skills. Executive functioning skills enable individuals to implement goal-oriented activities and problem-solving skills. These sets of skills help people reach “success” no matter how success is individually defined.
I noticed people that struggle often have challenges in connecting the dots between these necessary skills in their personal and professional lives. I use my knowledge and experience to help others strengthen these skills and find their confidence in doing so. My purpose is to build others by reminding them of their value but also providing real-world assistance to remind them of their agency and self-efficacy. My goal is to provide services that I know my own children needed as well as the people that pass through my life, because I know what a difference this investment in people makes. For me, it has always been about helping people to discover and build their confidence and strengths, so they can go fulfill their own callings and have more satisfying relationships. It is about people always. It always has been, and it will continue to be.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Education is crucial to boosting knowledge in a particular subject matter. I sought to increase my knowledge through higher education by earning degrees in teaching education and counseling. I also earned certificates that would enhance my skillset, such as in reading to help those with hidden disabilities. Earning my certifications in life-coaching only added to my skillset of helping people become their best selves and how to assist them in reaching their goals.
Lived experience is an aspect of life that cannot be duplicated, but truly resonates with a client. I always seek to use my education and lived experience to impact my client’s life. I know what it feels like to be in their shoes in many instances, but I also know what it means to come out on the other side. I have used my experiences to create discussions and practical advice for my clients that I wish I would have had when I needed certain resources. I am able to provide accurate instruction, useful advice, and the gift of hope. The maturity of my life in years and experiences provides additional meaning to my clients.
The ability to actively listen to my client’s concerns and to help develop a plan of action is incredibly helpful to provide hope and to support one on their journey. Doing so requires me to not sit in judgment, but to meet my clients where they are. This is challenging for many because they want to jump in and just solve the problem. It is better for me to assist my clients in teaching stronger executive functioning skills, so they become equipped and capable of solving their issues. This builds confidence and resilience which are traits we all need in life.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
As the owner of a business, there are often times when you have the potential to experience “overwhelm”. It is during these moments that I have to implement my own executive functioning skills which is important because I teach so many clients about how to strengthen theirs. The first step is to take a deep breath and step back from the problem to try to look at it objectively. Depending on the issue, often times, it is important to take a moment before making a decision. Emotional regulation is important to implement so that a decision or discussion is done in a calm and peaceful manner where thinking skills are strongest. I also try to remind myself that mistakes are okay and to free myself from the pressure of failure or making the wrong choice. Exercising executive functioning skills of identifying what projects need to be attended to first help to relieve pressure of overwhelm while also building a plan of action to complete tasks and goals.
