Meet Ashley Michelle Miller

We recently connected with Ashley Michelle Miller and have shared our conversation below.

Ashley Michelle, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
To be completely transparent, this is a daily journey for me. I’ve consciously integrated daily practices and self-care rituals into my routine to support this ongoing process. I grapple with imposter syndrome, people-pleasing tendencies, and moments of self-doubt. However, over the past couple of years, I’ve been purposeful in my efforts to grow in the realms of confidence, self-esteem, and self-love. I want to emphasize that this commitment is not just a personal goal—it’s a fundamental aspect of my well-being.
Anxiety has been a significant challenge for me. I’ve faced thoughts and feelings that triggered spirals of fear, making even simple tasks seem so hard to do. Recognizing the crucial role of my mental state, I’ve learned that living in alignment with my purpose and God’s plans for me begins with my mind.

Building confidence in myself, my work, and pursuing my life goals is an ongoing journey of self-discovery. My days, weeks, and months are filled with a variety of practices and rituals. This includes lots of inner work like meditation, prayer, attending church, therapy, affirmations, goal-setting, and exploring activities I enjoy. These practices help me understand myself better, fostering a loving and nurturing relationship with myself. This, in turn, boosts my self-esteem, granting me the courage and confidence to authentically navigate the world. It’s not an easy process, but I continuously extend grace to myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m often asked what made me become a wardrobe stylist, and my answer is usually therapy. Not the retail kind, but mental health therapy. In a period of uncertainty about my life’s direction and identity, my relationship with God and therapy became the catalyst not only for discovering professional purpose and passion but also for living authentically. Today, I proudly wear the hats of an award-winning & Emmy-nominated wardrobe stylist, motivational speaker, business owner, and self-love advocate. My personal journey has ignited a deep passion for helping others wholeheartedly embrace, love, and unapologetically express their “I AMM.”
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with an array of inspiring individuals like pop icon Madonna, celebrity chef Carla Hall, and fashion legend Andre Leon Talley. My work spans across renowned TV networks and brands such as ABC, BET, Food Network, Macys, Pepsi, and Amazon just to name a few. Beyond styling, my mission is to raise awareness about mental health, self-love and empower others to purposely live a life that is truly authentic to who they are and their wants and desires.
Motivated by my own personal growth, I’m committed to expanding my brand’s reach beyond celebrity circles. My goal is to showcase the transformative power of personal styling, self-expression, and holistic wellness to a broader audience. These principles have been life-saving for me, and I aim to offer tangible products and experiences that can uplift and inspire others in the same way. Expect much more from the Ashley Michelle Miller brand in the future!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I believe my strengths are rooted in my relentless commitment to seeking self-alignment. To consistently step outside my comfort zone, and maintain the perspective that there is always something valuable to learn in anything I do. For those at the early stages of their journey, my advice is to take it one step at a time. You can still hold firm in believing in the bigger picture and your dreams. But trust the process and focus on the tiny, incremental steps. Don’t stress about the “how”; instead, follow your heart in determining that next small step. In due time , you’ll reap the rewards—both professionally and personally. I know it can be hard to do. Trust I too struggle at times. But I encourage you to trust in the process and enjoy the journey unfolding before you.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allow me the freedom to pursue my dreams and be true to myself. At a point when I had already obtained my bachelor’s degree and was completing my master’s, the initial plan was for me to work in the family business and eventually take over. However, life took an unexpected turn. Upon completing my second degree and working full-time for the family business, I found myself struggling with depression, intense anxiety, and a profound sense of confusion about my life’s direction.
Through my relationship with God, therapy, and self-discovery, I made the courageous decision to leave everything familiar in Florida, my hometown, and venture to New York to pursue a career in fashion styling. This leap required a level of courage I never knew I possessed. I was fueled by a deeper understanding of what I truly wanted, independent of societal expectations.
Choosing to depart from the family business and relocate was undoubtedly the scariest decision I’ve ever made. While I now realize that my parents were equally anxious for me, they set aside their fears to wholeheartedly support and encourage my pursuit.
That move to New York was the best decision for me. Living there for seven years helped shape me into the woman I am today, marking a transformational journey far beyond anything I could have envisioned. Now, over a decade later I am very passionate about supporting others to uncover, showcase, and love the awesomeness’ that lives within them. Just as my parents continuously do for me.
