We were lucky to catch up with Ashley Nichole recently and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I honestly get my work ethic from my parents. I watched them raise 7 children. It was hard for them but me and my siblings was always kept with food on the table and a roof over our head which was more than enough now that I’m a parent and I understand the importance of needs versus wants.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Ashley Nichole. I am the founder and CEO of my brand called Nicholes Hair Collection. I fell in love with hair as a teenager. I use to always watch my older cousin doing everyone hair and she was so talented with it. I use to braid all the little girls hair in cute little styles with beads. However I didn’t get deep into hair until 2019. It’s like therapeutic to me. Hair is art and I feel like you can express yourself with coloring the wigs, styling them, etc.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most qualities, skills, or area of knowledge that was most impactful in my journey were research and a willing to learn. I’m really big on research that’s how I started my business on my own from the ground up. I didn’t pay for every online course that was being promoted on social media. I believe in doing the actual work. I would be up late nights and early mornings feeling my brain with knowledge of the hair industry because I wanted to learn everything about hair and I still feel like it’s so much more to learn.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed, I take a mental break. When I first started my business I would never take a break. I was all in until I got burned out and that’s when I realize you have to take a break so you can give your customers and everyone around you 100%.
