We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Porter a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I developed my confidence and self-esteem during my years of college. my entire life I’ve always was very insecure about my height shape size of a dark skin little girl. I didn’t understand why I was so tall, my shade of brown was so dark. My features didn’t look like other girls during my grade school years, I really suffered with low self-esteem. Once I got to college and I started seeing more females my height, my size I felt more confident in knowing that I wasn’t the only one that either felt the same way I felt or was viewed how I was viewed. The older I got, and I was able to see the world as a young adults. I realize that every room I walked in every space that I was in the I owned the room. as a little girl, my grandmother always told me that I was beautiful no matter what other said about me and the day she passed that never left me and this day I still walk with my head high shoulders back and my amazing smile.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a full-time entrepreneur with a side hustle fit influencer. The name of my brand is NudelyFit established 2021. NudelyFit is an athleisure undergarment line. I created this line for curvy women who are fit and active on a daily basis. As an athlete, I struggled a lot with finding comfortable, cute supportive sports bras, as well as comfortable panties. Every time my mother and I would go to a clothing store to try to find sports bras and panties there were none available and my mother would have to spend extra money either getting them customize or ordering online. It became a hassle.
After graduation Johnson C. Smith University I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew entrepreneurship was somewhere in my reach. I felt like I was destined to be an entrepreneur to a certain category of women. I have always been a plus size girl and I felt like sometimes we were overlooked. Going to stores and plus size women had to pay 2 to 3 extra dollars to shop for the same outfit for a smaller woman to this day. I still feel like that is unfair and addition I also hate going to the store looking for things for a tall plus size woman and the pants were the correct size, but not the correct length; it truly made shopping depressing.
I knew if it was something that I was struggling with that there were other girls and females out here with the same problem so I created a line just for a little girls and women like me.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Discipline
2. Dedication
3. Drive
Here is advice to someone who is early in their journey. These three qualities are very imperative it pretty much sums up how to run a successful business. You may are not seeing the results you pray for at this very moment, but just know that being an entrepreneur is a marathon every day you are learning and growing and the moment you stop learning the moment you stop growing. Keep your faith, write down every vision that comes to mind, and go get what you prayed for. There are billions of people in the world. Trust me someone would love to have your brand on.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’ve always dreamed of collapsing with fitness women all over the world, every shape, every size, every race, and every ethnic group. I’ve always wanted to Collab with women who have clothing brands, dedicated, or for women who are curvy, who are tall and confident!
