We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashley Urban a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ashley , thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I absolutely love this question! It’s so important to stay motivated and push through any negativity that comes our way. For me, it’s the haters and nay-sayers that actually fuel my determination and drive. Their doubt and criticism only serve as a reminder of how passionate I am about my work as a designer. It pushes me to work even harder, to prove them wrong, and to constantly strive for excellence. So, instead of letting their negativity bring me down, I use it as a source of motivation to keep pushing forward and achieving my goals.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am the proud owner of Ashley Urban Designs LLC, a thriving interior design firm that specializes in transforming residential homes and commercial properties into stunning works of art. From renovations to complete makeovers, my team and I are dedicated to creating spaces that exceed our clients’ expectations.
What I do is not just a job for me; it is my true calling and a way to express my creativity. I firmly believe that when you genuinely love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work at all. Every day, I wake up excited to embark on new design projects and make a positive impact on the lives of my clients.
One of the most exciting and special aspects of my work is the opportunity to be a part of turning my clients’ visions into reality. It is an incredible feeling to witness the transformation of a space and see the joy on my client’s faces when they step into their dream home. Being able to help them accomplish their goals and create a space that truly reflects their personality and style is incredibly rewarding.
Moreover, what sets my brand apart is the level of attention and care I bring to each project. I believe that successful design is not just about aesthetics, but also about understanding the needs and desires of my clients. I take the time to listen and collaborate closely with them, ensuring that every detail is tailored to their preferences. This personalized approach allows me to create unique, timeless designs that stand out.
Additionally, we are expanding our services to include virtual design consultations, making it even more accessible for clients to work with us regardless of their location. This exciting development allows us to reach a wider audience and share our expertise with clients from all around the world.
In conclusion, I am incredibly passionate about what I do and feel privileged to be able to pursue my love for interior design through my business. The joy of seeing my clients’ dreams come to life and the satisfaction of knowing that I have made a difference in their lives is what fuels my enthusiasm every day. I am excited about the future of Ashley Urban Designs LLC and look forward to creating more beautiful spaces that inspire and uplift.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In reflecting on my journey, I found that being organized played a crucial role in my success. It helped me stay focused and efficient. Additionally, I learned the importance of not taking on too many tasks at once, as it can lead to burnout and decreased productivity. My advice for those starting their journey is to prioritize organization and be mindful of their workload, ensuring they have a healthy balance.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Growing up I learned that life is too short to be unhappy and that true fulfillment comes from continuously striving for personal growth and happiness. One of the most impactful things my parents did for me was show me the value of never settling in life. To never give up no matter how many times life knocks you down. Like my favorite quote “Sometimes you got to fall before you fly”. My mother especially, she’s a fighter and one of the strongest women I know. She always fought and never gave up, and gave up everything for me. She is my hero
But my childhood was an example that showed me the importance of actively listening to others and demonstrating selfless acts of love, honesty, and kindness. These lessons have shaped my mindset and have guided me in making choices that align with my values and aspirations. I am grateful for what I learned and the invaluable life skills they have imparted to me.
