We were lucky to catch up with Ashleycae Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
AshleyCae, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
This is a great question.. how do I? These days I’m so focus on wanting to leave a piece of me behind, so I create different types of media for creativity to live. Rather it’s my albums, Black God or Poetic Advisory, or even physical paintings people have bought from me or that sit in galleries. My art and creativity lives in many spaces that will far outlast me.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a poet artist and activist for healthcare reform. Currently I have an Album out titled Black God, that tackles, social and emotional issues within the black community. But also about my own spiritual awakening while batting cancer. The album features my brother Courtney Bell. The most exciting thing I do is bring to life my world into words. Being able to do that and inspire people with my art has been the most amazing thing I have experienced. I’m currently working on a new album. What’s so special is that my art will far out live me and that’s an amazing feeling.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
A piece of advice my brother gave me early on in my career was use your name. People will know your name use it., I was debating early on what I wanting to be known as when it come to my music and poetry career. I’d tell anyone make sure you are confident in the name that you choose to call yourself, other people will call you that as well. That name will ring bells for people when it comes to you. Another thing I would say was most impactful was learning how to speak up for myself when it comes to creating music. It is a part of you often times you have to work with other people, but you have to advocate for yourself. A skill that I learned from other artist around me was being vulnerable. Writers like Kai Moriah Alpha Drew, or rappers like Courtney Bell, Muziek, Cain Bishop, GS tha DreaM, Day solo, RoarJ Mckay , Artless Visionary & It’s Sap. Singers like Taylor Tatum, F3F3 or Jeremiah Whitehead. They showed me true vulnerability and it inspired me to do the same with my music.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am looking for people to partner with and collaborate with specifically I’m looking for people who want to tell their stories rather their battle cancer like me or they just want their lives to be told by them. I’m inspired to worth with people too see life how they picture it.
