Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Asia & China Harris-Sykes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Asia & China, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up we saw the women in our life do what they felt necessary to survive. Our mom was a single mom who did her best to make sure we had what we needed. Our grandmother, the matriarch of the family was a woman who wore many hats. She worked for the school system for many years, sold dinners and was a seamstress. This gave her the ability to help all of those who were near and dear to her heart. Seeing her juggle these things was a major influence on how we push forward to reach our goals.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
We are two sisters who founded Allure Beautique in 2019. We were both born and raised in Newark, NJ. We always shared a passion for skincare. The foundation was set many years ago by our grandmother, who was a licensed Cosmetologist. She instilled basic skincare maintenance in us, which inspired our vision for the future. We graduated from Elaine Sterling Institute in Atlanta, GA in June 2020 and became Licensed Estheticians.

We enjoy performing esthetic services and formulating skincare products. We’ve recently switched gears to a product based business. What makes what we do special is seeing a thought turn into reality. A recipe ending in a jar of heaven such as our Allure Beauty Body Butter. Please stay tuned while we release more products in the near future.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Knowing your purpose and why you chose this journey is imperative to your path as a business owner. With 10+ years combined of Customer Service experience, we understand the importance of providing a seamless experience. Remaining true to self is the MOST important skill. No one can tell you how to navigate through your entrepreneurial pursuits. You have to be tapped into self/source to know what’s for you.

We would love to provide a definite answer, however everyones journey is different. The best we can say is, STAY CONSISTENT, avoid distractions and don’t procrastinate.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Opening our doors for business during the pandemic has been the biggest challenge we’ve faced so far. With high unemployment rates and inflation, skincare has been deemed a luxury and not necessity. This is what fueled our decision to switch from service based to product based.
