Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Asya Olson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Asya, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
I try to completely shift my focus to something else, ideally a monotonous task that I need to do anyway. For example, editing pictures. After editing for hours, my mind gets so bored that it starts generating fun ideas. Another great option is to take a day off in nature. Works every time!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I own a small business focused on travel content creation. My passion for photography started when I was a kid, and it has now grown into my full-time job that I really love. I share educational travel and photography-related posts on my blog and social media, and I actively work with various businesses to help them with content and promotions. I also have several digital products. My most popular one is a custom California Map, which helps my followers explore the unique destinations in our beautiful state. I’m also launching Travel Photography Course for Beginners soon.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
It might sound funny, but I think being a nerd has helped me the most. I often feel that I lack creativity, but I always spend a lot of time researching updates, trends, and tools. I analyze all the feedback I receive to understand what I need to change. I’m also really dedicated to what I do—sometimes too much, as I can skip my free time to do more for my business. This is definitely not the best long-term solution, and I’m working on respecting my personal time more. If I had to name the three qualities that helped me the most, they would be persistence, being a nerd, and optimism.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Yes, I have a hard time hiring people. I feel like it’s a special skill that I’m lacking and need to learn. I’ve opened several part-time positions but have only been able to fill two so far. I’m still searching for help and working on learning how to find the right candidates.
