Meet Audra Milos

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Audra Milos. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Audra, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
Seeing patient people wait and do the work, and seeing the work and waiting actually pay off. Sometimes good things take time and work, and you need to be willing to do that if you want to earn the reward. Wanting it NOW and not even doing the required work or required waiting isn’t going to get you want you want sooner. I’m not settling for a breadcrumb just because it’s all that’s available at the moment; I’ll wait a week and get the full loaf of bread, ya know?

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I do acting in indie film festival short films for LA Horror Fest & Maine Mayhem Film Fest, streaming network TV shows & movies on Hulu & Tubi, music videos for Billboard Hot 100 musicians seen on MTV, and I also do stand-up comedy emcee-type hosting & stage work. At the moment, I’m doing a lot of modeling, photography, and fashion runway work.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The first, knowing how to advocate for myself and stand-up for myself. Not being taken advantage of is very important in the entertainment industry, especially as a marginalized person. People in power can be tricky to negotiate with or go up against, if you don’t know what you’re doing or are new to all this. The second, making sure I know how to act, dance, perform, & entertain. I actually did my research, took classes, & educated myself on what to do and how to do it. The third, having comedic skills. It makes industry connections feel comfortable with you both in the audition room, as well as on-set, and long after filming.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
I read “Scrappy Little Nobody”, by Oscar-nominated actress & director Anna Kendrick. She and I have the same, small, home-state. It taught me a lot about how this business actually works behind the scenes. It showed me that it’s okay to have humble beginnings, and it’s okay if it takes you a few years to really get serious traction in Hollywood. I loved that she was honest about how the “getting your foot-in-the-door” process really is in real life.
