Meet Audrey Keliehor

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Audrey Keliehor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Audrey below.

Audrey, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

My self-discipline stems from my early days as a competitive swimmer, where I learned the value of routine, perseverance, and teamwork. The rigorous schedule of waking up at dawn for practice, balancing schoolwork, and committing to two training sessions a day instilled in me a strong work ethic and time management skills. These experiences taught me to focus on long-term goals while staying dedicated to the daily grind.
Now, as a professional with a seasonal career, I apply that same discipline to my work, making sure I give my best during peak times, while strategically dedicating the off-season to growing my business, refining my strategies, and setting new goals. This balance of intense commitment during the swim season and thoughtful planning in the off-season allows me to continuously improve and expand my impact as a coach and entrepreneur.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At Audswimmers, I am all about making a splash—literally and figuratively! My travel water safety and swim school is dedicated to helping people of all ages, from tiny toddlers to adults, discover a lifelong love for the water. What makes my program special is the inclusive approach; I teach the same essential skills to both children and adults, ensuring that no one misses out on the fundamentals.
What excites me the most is seeing that “aha!” moment when a student masters a new skill. My coaching style is all about being clear, fun, and results-driven, so each lesson is not only effective but also enjoyable. As for what’s new… let’s just say that with all the exciting growth happening at Audswimmers, I’m looking forward to welcoming some fresh energy to help me continue making waves next year.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my journey as a swim coach are patience, adaptability, and social networking. Patience is essential when running a seasonal swim program and working with kids. Teaching children how to swim requires understanding that progress comes at its own pace, and when you add Florida’s unpredictable weather into the mix, you really learn the value of flexibility.
Adaptability is closely tied to patience, as it’s crucial to adjust to the needs of each student and the ever-changing environment I work in. Social networking has also been a game changer for me. Connecting with other swim coaches, attending conferences, and staying active in online communities has opened doors to new ideas, support, and inspiration.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to go with the flow and let your business grow at a pace that suits your lifestyle. It’s important to find a rhythm that works for you, allowing your personal and professional life to thrive together. These qualities will not only help you grow but will also enrich your career in ways you might not expect.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I feel overwhelmed, I rely heavily on self-regulation and being in tune with my emotions and personal energy levels. It’s so important to notice when things start to feel off, long before reaching the point of overwhelm. By regularly checking in with myself, I can reflect on what’s causing any stress and, more importantly, identify where I might have been able to react sooner. This way, even if I do find myself feeling overwhelmed, I can better understand the triggers and use that insight to manage my emotions more effectively in the future.

That said, I also recognize that feeling overwhelmed is a part of life, and it’s something I experience often. When it happens, I remind myself that the overwhelm is already in the past if I choose to put it behind me. It’s not about pretending everything’s perfect, but rather about shifting my perspective and facing forward with a new outlook. It doesn’t need to be a completely fresh start, just a new angle on the situation. This approach helps me move through challenges with more resilience and less lingering stress.
