We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Audria Turnbull. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Audria below.
Audria, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
Growing up we did not have a lot of money. Even-though we did not have a lot, we always had enough. One thing my Mom always did was be an amazing example of helping others. We frequently would volunteer with the homeless, would donate clothing and other items, and whenever possible would donate money. But one thing my Mom did, that I believe always helped was tithing.
So today in my business, with every order I always send a free item as my way of saying thank you. Throughout the year I also pick customers at random and send a thank you package to. Personally, my family and I love to live generously and really take time to help those in need.
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
2 Corinthians 9:7
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Little Things by Rayne, I strive to create one of a kind, lightweight jewelry and accessories for anyone. But I have been focusing more on custom items and bridal pieces. What I love about custom pieces, is instead of getting an email order notification, I get to work one on one with so many amazing people. I get a better understanding of what each piece is needed for, and spend more time trying to make every aspect prefect. Whether it is earrings for a family photoshoot, a bracelet to match a special necklace, or something being gifted to a loved one. Each custom piece is unique and special, just like the beauties wearing them.
For bridal pieces, I work so hard to make sure each piece is perfect for the Brides big day. From earrings, bridesmades gifts to now stunning hair pieces. Wedding days are so incredibly special, as is each piece of jewelry. And I am so honored to be a small part of such an important day.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One main quality I hold, which is great but difficult is being a perfectionist. For each piece if it is not as close to flawless as can be, it needs to be remade or scrapped. Although each beautiful soul has its own imperfections, I really aim to make perfect jewelry and accessories with quality materials. Each piece is made to last!
Another quality I believe has impacted my journey is be patient and open to new ideas. At first I just wanted to create jewelry that I would wear and didn’t stray very far from that style. BUT not everyone like minimalist and neutral colored jewelry. So I would post questions to my community asking what they wanted and I would try to make a wife variety of pieces, different colors and variety of sizes. I think it is okay to have a preference that you are comfortable with, but being flexible is key.
My last address of knowledge will be just a note for those looking to start in clay jewelry. My main advice is to, if you can, invest in the quality materials and be patient. Quality materials will not only make your jewelry stand out, but they will last so much longer. And if your just starting out in jewelry making or anything, just be patient. That person you see on social media that makes it look easy, I guarantee it took them some time to get to that point. Or they are incredibly gifted, either way just be patient and enjoy the process. Take breaks and don’t get burnt out. Enjoy what you create and don’t give up. 🙂
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am currently open and looking for boutiques to collaborate with and showcase some of my pieces that mesh best with your style. I am also looking for photographers, bridal HMUA that do branding shoots to donate bridal pieces to elevate your brides looks. I am also looking for other clay jewelry makers and small business owners in the Colorado Springs area who would be interested in networking events and organizing pop up markets to showcase our work. If you are interested please contact me at littlethingsbyrayne@gmail.com or on Instagram @littlethingsbyrayne.
I look forward to meeting you 🩷
