Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Austin Fleenor. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Austin, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I developed early effectiveness and success through a strong foundation rooted in faith and the unwavering belief of my role models, my mom and dad. Trusting in my gift from a young age, I was determined to pursue my dreams, undeterred by any obstacles, including my age.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Hi, I’m Austin B. Fleenor, also known as AustinB7, and I’m a 14-year-old self-taught Producer, DJ, Philanthropist, and electronic music enthusiast. Apart from performing, I spend my time creating music in the studio, exploring various genres, and have been working towards future collaborations with admired producers. My musical journey began at the age of 5 on my mother’s iPad, and since then, I’ve been fortunate to perform at notable venues like the Jack Daniel’s VIP Lounge at the American Airlines Center’s KISS FM’s / iHeart Radio Jingle Ball at the age of 9. Subsequently, I’ve been invited to perform at LA’s Fashion Week annually, and have performed for the past 8 years at venues across the country.
I’m thrilled about the upcoming events I’ve booked for this year and even some for next year! Every day, I’m working on finalizing new originals, and I can’t wait to see everyone dancing and moving to my music.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that are most impactful in my journey.
Relying on God holds the top spot for me. The ability to resist doubt, whether internal or external, and acknowledging that each person has distinct gifts. It simply demands self-belief, supported by others who consistently offer encouragement, and the courage to chase my dreams!
The second thing would be confidence comes with hours and hours of practice and knowing that we should never stop learning. Even now, I occasionally find myself negotiating with my parents to allow me more time to research music and hone my skills for hours, even on school nights!
The third piece of guidance I can offer is to remain receptive to constructive criticism. Following each event, my team, my parents, and I engage in a debrief to evaluate successes and identify areas for improvement. What could have we done to make the event even better?
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
DJing, my most significant area of improvement involves seamlessly managing four CDJ decks simultaneously. In terms of music production, I’ve dedicated an equal amount of time to the studio, crafting original works that I eagerly anticipate sharing in the near future!
