Meet Austin McKedy

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Austin McKedy. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Austin below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Austin with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My family has instilled a strong work ethic in me. My parents have always told me to work hard for what I want and to not lay around expecting a hand out. I have therefore always given it my all to work hard in my music as well as in anything else that I do. I want to achieve big things with my music and have always been willing to make sacrifices and work hard toward that goal.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a country music recording artist with Clarksville Creative Sound. I play guitar, sing and regularly perform with my family band “The McKedys”. We perform all over the United States at various festivals and events. I currently have 3 singles released to radio and to all major streaming platforms. I love performing and one of my more exciting shows coming up is opening for Diamond Rio. I hope to continue to grow in my music and continue to perform exciting shows like that.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My musical journey has been greatly impacted by my dad Byron McKedy and my grandpa Jimmy Tyler, who instilled in me a love for playing music at an early age. I think patience played a part in my learning to play guitar, because it does take patience to learn to play a musical instrument. I think my having a good knowledge of country music has also helped me grow in my musical journey. I grew up listening to country music, it’s always been a part of my family.
For anybody starting out in the music business, I would advise them to never get a big head and never stop learning. No matter how much you think you may know about singing, performing and playing an instrument, there is always more you can learn!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

I have attended the BAM Summer Music Camp for years as well as other music camps and this has greatly helped improve my guitar playing. There are always top notch instructors and the lessons I have learned has truly helped me grow into a better musician.
