Meet Austin-Tucker

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Austin-Tucker a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Austin-Tucker, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
For me, in any form of art you have to have a boundless duty to present as individualist as possible. The journey of creating has the same sense of not knowing as the brush that paints it. So when writing or recording, there is a level of pure joy from putting things together in the most obscure way possible. The success of something created is always going to be dependent of how much the creator was invested. And I would very unlikely work on something I wasn’t ecstatic to get behind.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a Recording Artist/Producer. The most exciting part about Music Production is the freedom within the process. Making music, for me, is about creating and finding genuine connection with others. Being able to articulate a feeling that other people resonate with. To get to start or continue something every day, hoping that it reverberates with the roller coaster ride of human existence. Because both the ups and downs are worth their weight. In June, I released a fully acoustic album with a couple poems sprinkled in and am set to release a full band record by the end of the year. So in all, the most exciting thing will always be the option to do things my own way.
