Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Auston Cook. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Auston , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
I love giving back to those that have given anything to me but also to those that are not able to give financially or mentally?
Growing up I was always someone that would share or make sure others around me were good to go. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized everyone deals with things you know nothing about and helping them in any way is truly amazing!
I love coming up with ideas to make my community a more family friendly place but also for couples on date nights. If I can help my community bring in great, fun, adventurous activities. I’m all for it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
Anytime I see someone new or an old friend at town, they always ask me what I’m up to? I still haven’t gotten the wording down, I probably never will?.. But I usually tell them I’m an entrepreneur. They kind of look at me like, “yeah but what do you do?”…
I am the founder and owner of Elysian Supply Co. Its a lifestyle apparel & active wear, clothing brand. We’re located in Northeastern Utah and we’re coming up on 5 years in September since our launch. Elysian is located online (e-commerce) which allows us to ship to various parts of the world such as Canada, Brazil, Mexico, France & Spain just to name a few.
I started elysian in May of 2018 when I was 22. I’ve always loved to encourage others to get what they want in life no matter what or where it is? Elysian Supply Co. was created to inspire and encourage the world to live life to the fullest and our saying; “It’s a Lifestyle” is what we live by. Whatever it is your doing or wherever you’re doing it, “It’s a Lifestyle” so live it to the fullest!
When I’m not behind my PC creating new designs, packaging orders or updating our website. I’m making music!
Last year I decided I was going to start making music professionally. After covid, elysian took a hard hit just like other small businesses. I’ve thought about giving it up and moving onto something new but my mom tells me I’ve worked to hard to let it go. She’s right! I don’t think I’d be able to live with myself if I let it go after these years?
So I decided to start a new journey and take a different path alongside running a clothing brand. When I was around 11 or 12 I wrote my first song and since then I’ve always loved writing. Throughout high school I wrote here and there but it wasn’t consistent but I still enjoyed it. In my early twenties I realized I had a love/ passion for music but I wasn’t sure what to do with it?
As time went on I started producing a little bit, nothing crazy. It was more of just getting a feel for it but I enjoyed that too. So last year at 26 years old I decided to take the leap and go for it!
I’m a religious person and I kept praying and asking if this it what I should do? Because starting something new like this after already building a business is a lot! But after praying I kept getting these promptings that I needed to make music. So I listened…
As of right now I’m in the phase of getting all the equipment needed to move forward and my studio is coming along great. I now write every week, sometimes 2-3 times in a week? I’ve got over 100 songs total and the way that it’s going I’ll probably have close to 200 by the end of this year. I’ve learned in the last year that I’m capable of writing for more than one genre like country, pop & hip-hop.
I’m very excited for this new chapter and to be able to see where both paths go?
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one of the most impactful things for me was having a group around me, whether it was friends, family or just supporters from all over. Pushing me along and encouraging me to keep going. Especially those that would share their journeys with me and tell me that they chased their dreams because eof my inspiration. That is one of the greatest feelings and accomplishments to ever feel!
If I could give any advice it would be to not give up so early. Success doesn’t come over night, it comes with hard work and patience. Patience is easier said than done but it’s true!
Another piece of advice would be to sit at the table that talks about goals, dreams and accomplishments. Not at the table that talks about others.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
One of the most impactful things my parents did or taught me would saving. My mom is great at saving money and she taught us kids how to do it. When it comes to running a business of any kind you have to know how to manage money, otherwise you’ll fail.
Growing up I’d always see my mom saving and managing my parents money so that no matter what happened in the future, they had enough set aside for it. Same thing goes for owning/ starting a business or just chasing a dream/ goal in life. It’s always good to have a little extra sitting aside.
