Meet Austyn Yarbrough

We recently connected with Austyn Yarbrough and have shared our conversation below.

Austyn, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I love this question even though it’s very tough to answer. I think some people search for years for the “perfect” purpose and there really doesn’t need to be that much pressure put on it. What I think is so important to understand is there will never be a “perfect” purpose, job, etc.

Your purpose is what you enjoy. It’s what you are good at, what you like talking about, what you are confident in. Purpose also comes from problems. What have I gone through that I now want to help others with? That’s the biggest place that my purpose has come from. I have gone through a lot with my own health story, and through that I learned the skills it took to help others. I also think that you find your purpose as you put yourself more and more into uncomfortable situations.

As I learned new skills, traveled more, saw the world, stayed consistent this made me have more of a purpose. I think purpose also evolves over time as you grow, learn new things, and maybe even changes as time goes on.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My story really started as a young gymnast. I feel like that’s a huge part of my journey and where my purpose has stemmed from.

I was a USA competitive gymnast that was always into health and wellness. My journey really started when I was in a bad gymnastics accident and was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called, Palatal Myoclonus. Throughout college I ran into the diagnosis of an auto-immune disorder. At this time I was experience major gut issues, weight loss, and other sneaky symptoms. Eventually I got burnt out by the western medical model not giving me any answers to what was going on or any solution without just taking a medication with tons of side effects. Functional medicine and root cause medicine changed my life. I was able to understand the importance of the nervous system and your gut, and how if you mastered those two things you could really heal anything.

The more I learned about these things to help myself, the more people were coming to me with questions. I now help people hundreds of women overcome anxiety, weight gain, hormonal imbalances, gut issues, and other sneaky symptoms that are holding them back!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Confidence- Practicing this daily with affirmations, journaling, putting myself out of my comfort zone.

Consistency- No matter what you are trying to improve whether that’s your own business, your health, your relationship, etc. Show up every freaking day and be consistent.

Resilience-You don’t give up when it’s hard. MAKE IT WORK. There have been so many instances in my life where I felt lost, depressed, or like I wanted to give up, but I made a change. Sometimes that meant moving cross country alone to reset and have a fresh start, other times that was pep talks to myself that I couldn’t give up when it’s hard because that’s when everyone fails. On the hard days you have to keep going…the days when you don’t want to do your exercise, or you don’t want to show up for yourself. These times make it so much more worth it when we do have those wins.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate! I am always looking for more people to connect with. Right now I am really looking for fitness podcasts to speak on about how weight loss is not just about working out and dieting or eating “good”. I also would love to connect with any other holistic practitioners 🙂
