We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Author Robert L Jamison, PhD, CCM, BH-C a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Author Robert L , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from a combination of factors, including supportive relationships with my medical colleagues, a positive self-view, physical and mental health practices, and the ability to make plans and take action. It’s a set of skills that can be learned and developed over time through practice, rather than being a single innate trait.
You have to develop supportive connections and build a strong support system and surround yourself with positive, healthy people who offer encouragement and support.
You should communicate openly: Talk with friends, family, or a healthcare professional when you need help or are having trouble coping.
Tap into community: Look for cultural practices or community support that you find helpful during stressful times. Practice self-care and healthy habits. You must tend to your physical needs: Focus on your physical health through regular exercise, a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep.Incorporate relaxation: Manage stress through activities like sports, meditation, or deep breathing.Take time for yourself: Make time for activities you enjoy and for rest to avoid burnout.
Cultivate a resilient mindset. Try to set realistic goals and take action: Make a plan to address problems rather than ignoring them, and take steps to carry it out. Maintain flexibility: You have to be open to change and adapt your thinking and actions as needed. Find purpose: A sense of purpose can give you motivation to learn from past experiences and keep going. Practice gratitude and positivity: Look for the good in your life and try to view challenges as opportunities for growth.
As a 36-year Healthcare Provider and 13-year background as Director in Behavioral Health. I strongly recommend that you seek professional help If you feel you aren’t making progress or don’t know where to start, a mental health professional can provide guidance to improve your resilience.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Everyday I am reminded how blessed I am, even if my circumstances aren’t ideal. I have so much to be thankful for So much to give God praise for. So I hope You remember this. God never ignores your prayers Not One! Pray and trust the process 🙏
