Meet Autumn Thomas

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Autumn Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Autumn below.

Hi Autumn, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I haven’t always been the most confident person. But on my journey of self-actualization, I have found that anything you don’t like about yourself, you can change, you can improve if you’re willing to do the work. So, I started digging deeper, trying to identify the root of my low self-image. In doing so, I uncovered years of childhood trauma, self-deprecating and destructive behaviors. Desperate for change, I started pouring into myself by caring for my body and my mind. I started exercising more, eating better, updating my wardrobe, keeping regular hair and nail appointments, seeing a dermatologist, finding inspiration & motivation from women I wanted to emulate like Donni Wiggins & Stormi Wellington, investing in motivational literature, going to events that put me in the company of confident and successful women, and changing my network by removing certain relationships and investing in others. The more I continued to push forward, I noticed a drastic shift in my mindset and my self-confidence and my self- image improved tenfold.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Autumn Thomas and I coach women on how to get the most out of life. Under the alias Mrs. Defy Gravity, I help women to define what success is for them, reclaim their time by setting healthy boundaries, maximize their level of productivity and activate their gifts so they can achieve their goals. I am most excited about the development of our youth mentorship program which will target young girls ages 12-18 in an effort to help them develop self-confidence and emotional maturity while also helping them learn how to set healthy boundaries and identify their gifts.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that were most impactful in my journey would be tenacity, confidence and creativity. I think the best way to develop these qualities is to constantly be studying and reading. Setting clear and specific goals, surrounding yourself with supportive people and developing a success mindset can all help to improve your tenacity. The more you become in expert in your field, the more confidence you will gain and ultimately by being immersed in it, your creativity will develop because you will have more exposure to those discussions and leading topics which can trigger or cultivate new thoughts and ideas.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I’m feeling overwhelmed, my first instinct is to analyze and identify why. Most times those feelings are a direct result of me taking on too many tasks without a clear path on how to accomplish them. Then I strategize. I make a list of things that I need to accomplish and order them from most important to least important, then I set reasonable deadlines for each item. Another strategy is to outsource certain tasks. If I have multiple projects on things I need to accomplish by a certain time, I seek help or support so that everything is accomplished in a timely fashion and I regain some of my time and my sanity.
