Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Avery Robinson Rouda. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Avery, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In my opinion, finding purpose in life is an ongoing process that requires a person to check-in with herself on a daily basis. For me, that looks a lot like reflecting on where I’ve been, where I’m going, and how these two pathways can converge to allow me to show up everyday as the person I want to be. It’s been helpful for me to honor the journey as the destination. That means, finding purpose in every step along the way to manifesting my dreams. Finding purpose is an inspired feeling that arises in the human spirit, motivating us to create. In some ways, finding purpose is instinctual and can be as simple as asking yourself, “How can I be of service today”? Other times, finding purpose requires patience – tuning into the breath and going deep within yourself to forge a bond with your own spiritual calling so a spark of curiosity can emerge in that novel place of possibility within the soul. Personally, I am constantly meeting and re-meeting myself on this bridge of sacred union, within and without. Each of us can find purpose between the external world and the worlds within ourselves if we stay open, stay aligned to our highest timeline, and look no further for our purpose than inside one’s own heart. All that’s left to do is to start walking The Way.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My journey is that of a storyteller. I work in the film industry as a Writer/Director/Producer, focused on channeling timely stories for the coming generations. At Enlighten Productions, our team of Dreamers and Wayshowers craft stories about being good stewards of the planet, stories about looking within and following your heart to manifest your dreams. Stories about healing our relationship to the unknown and reclaiming our superpowers of creativity. My business is the business of creating worlds that shift and uplift the consciousness of the planet through inspired and empowered character-driven narratives. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I would say a curiosity to know thyself and to understand the deeper nature of the world around you is a quality that will always take you to the most beautifully rare place in the human mind. This is a way of being in the world but not of the world, so you can foster your own relationship to divinity while openly inviting others to do the same, creating heaven on earth with your ripples.
Another great skill to have is discernment. Being able to know the difference between fear and love, passion and play, excitement and anxiety is an essential skill to have in this world. Life is like a double edged sword and awareness is your hand clasped around the hilt. Knowledge is power, as they say. So practice discernment to find your spark and thirst for truth. When your surroundings are in disarray, discernment will always be the key to becoming the all-seeing eye within the storm.
Lastly, to piggy-back off of that, I have found stillness to be a medicine for cultivating true grace and a grounding vibration for sustained inner strength. Letting go of expectations. Letting go of attachments. Present with all that is to make space for all that you are. From here, let the openness serve as a reminder that you and your very potential for greatness are limitless.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Here are some things I do when I feel overwhelmed! I take a walk outside. I meditate and ask myself simple questions about how I’m feeling and why so I can identify that energy, validate it for myself, and then ultimately clear it. That means slowing down, taking stock of a situation and putting it all on pause to listen. For example, I sometimes get overwhelmed while screenwriting. The structure feels off, the dialogue isn’t working, a scene is not shaping out the way I planned, etc. What do I do? I take a deep breath and I step back. I remove myself and my thoughts from the equation. I take so much space from the script, I’m literally in another universe. Here, I can finally see everything so clearly. The things that were making me feel overwhelmed are tiny and approachable from this macrocosmic perspective. I am able to navigate the very thing that was once causing so much stress and anxiety now with ease and objectivity. Practicing autonomy over one’s thoughts keeps us from mindlessly drifting into old habits of negative, anxious projections.
