We recently connected with AYA KRIM and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have AYA with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from within myself and the belief that once I put my mind to something, I am determined to see it through. I’ve always been a naturally creative person, and I find immense fulfillment in channeling that creativity into my work.
While I haven’t yet had the opportunity to work with high-end brands like Vogue, Versace, or Valentino, these collaborations are my dreams, and I am wholeheartedly committed to pursuing them. I thrive on the challenges that come my way, using them as motivation to push harder and strive for excellence.
This inner drive and commitment to my vision have shaped not only my work ethic but also my journey in the fashion industry. I believe that with creativity and determination, there are no limits to what I can achieve, and I am excited for the day I can realize those dreams!
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Since I was eight years old, I’ve dreamed of being a model, often wearing my mom’s high heels and pretending I was walking the runway. Now, after four years in the industry—working in editorial, runway, print, commercial, and beauty—I continue to pursue my passion, despite the challenges the fashion world faces regarding diversity.
While the industry is making strides, there’s still much work to be done to ensure every voice and look is represented. I’m excited to be part of this change, collaborating with talented individuals and showcasing emerging designers, especially those committed to sustainability.
Modeling has taught me the power of self-acceptance and authenticity, and I’m passionate about inspiring others to embrace their unique stories.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Resilience: The fashion industry can be challenging, and rejection is part of the journey. It’s important to not take “no” for an answer; instead, use it as motivation to work even harder. For those early in their journey, embrace feedback and learn from each experience as a stepping stone.
2. Adaptability: Being able to adjust to different styles, environments, and creative directions is essential. I recommend aspiring models practice versatility by trying various looks and participating in diverse projects. This helps expand your skill set and discover your unique style.
3. Networking: Building relationships within the industry has opened many doors for me. I encourage new models to attend events, engage on social media, and connect with photographers, designers, and fellow models. A strong network can lead to valuable collaborations and opportunities.
By focusing on resilience, adaptability, and networking, you can enhance your modeling journey significantly. Stay true to yourself, keep pushing forward, and remember that every “no” can be an opportunity to work harder and shine even brighter.
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
One of the biggest challenges I currently face is the ongoing struggle for true diversity and inclusivity in the fashion industry. It can be disheartening to see how far we still have to go, especially when so many talented individuals are overlooked.
Despite these challenges, I refuse to give up on my dreams of working with high-end fashion brands like Versace and Valentino, and I aspire to be on the cover of Vogue. I am committed to pursuing these aspirations with unwavering resilience and determination.
To overcome these obstacles, I actively seek collaborations with brands that share my passion for representation and creativity. I believe in the power of community and uplifting one another. Every setback fuels my drive to work even harder, knowing that our dreams are worth fighting for.
With each step I take, I am one step closer to the future I envision a fashion world that celebrates diversity and celebrates the unique stories we all have to tell. Together, let’s continue to push boundaries and inspire change, proving that our dreams can indeed become a beautiful reality.
