We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Aye Yb. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Aye below.
Aye , thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
Growing up, I attended a Military school from 6th to 12th grade. I was taught a quote that I had to memorize, which I continue to use to this day: “Excuses are the tools of the incompetent, and those who use them seldom achieve success.” So anytime I feel myself slipping mentally or becoming lazy I say that quote to get back on track.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Aye Yb, I am a Music Producer. Music is the job I love. I go to work (the studio), clock in, and create hits every day! I also teach younger producers the foundation of music and the music industry, including the dos and don’ts, etc. I also started a scholarship program for my former high school’s music department. What I feel most excited about with music production is that I can work and build things with other creatives. Producers are like Painters we create from a blank canvas.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most important qualities you need in my opinion are Discipline, Relationships, and Faith.
Discipline is the most important thing to me because you have to push yourself to get things done even when you are too tired or you are feeling not up to par. You must have the discipline to wake up early every day to knock out your goals and get things done in order to progress.
The second is relationships. Having relationships with people will take you farther than any skill or talent you have. It will get you into doors that you might think you don’t qualify for.
The last is Faith, I am a very religious person. I come from nothing so God and Faith were all I had to lean on to chase my dreams all I added was hard work and my faith moved mountains and allowed me to travel, meet, and work with many people in the Music industry that I dreamed of meeting.
The only advice I have is to never give up have faith and work harder than anyone else you have to sacrifice everything and put in the extra hours and all your dreams will come true.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The Most impactful thing my mom ever did for me was believe in me. Whenever I had a dream or anything I wanted to do she would not hesitate to support me. When I played sports she made sure I had everything I needed. When I wanted to be in the band she made a way to get my equipment and get me lessons. When I wanted to travel to attend producer events she did not hesitate to spend her check on a hotel and rental car. She always made sure that whatever my dream was she was going to support and push me to be the best.
