Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to B. Able. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
B. , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I developed resilience by overcoming the odds that others placed on me. Diagnosed with autism and ADHD, I was often told not to chase my dreams of becoming a famous musician. A neurologist even told my parents when I was two that I would never graduate high school, attend college, or live independently. But it was through that negativity that I found my strength to push forward. Today, I hold a master’s degree in accounting and live independently in Koreatown.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m an instrumentalist, rapper, and singer. I play three instruments: the tenor sax, the soprano sax, and the bass clarinet. I’ve been playing instruments for 20 years and rapping and singing for 6. Music moves me in more ways than one—it allows me to connect with others in ways that help me overcome the awkwardness and pain I face in daily life. I love performing and writing songs because it gives me a chance to express myself and share my story. My goals are to get a record deal and tour the world, sharing my journey and inspiring others, especially those on the autism spectrum like myself: don’t let anyone or anything define who you are or what you can achieve.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three skills that have been the most impactful in my journey are networking, practicing, and communication. In this industry, networking is so important. Even when I am not performing at an event, I still aim to talk to people and gain connections. You never know if the connection you make is going to make your dreams come true. With the connections I make, I always try to follow up with them and keep it alive through good communication. No communication, no connection. Finally, practice makes progress. Even if I have a five star performance, I can always do better and I aim to be better every time I step on stage.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m currently looking to collaborate with other artists, producers, managers, record labels, and organizations to create and perform music. I love working with others, especially on original content, and I’m eager to grow in the music industry. I could use some support in developing new material and bringing creative ideas to life. Recently, I organized an event, and I want to keep that momentum going, especially to raise autism awareness. Anyone interested in collaborating can contact me via the phone number or email listed on my Instagram.
