Meet Bailey Oliver

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bailey Oliver. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bailey below.

Bailey, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I feel like as someone working in a creativity-led industry, it can be SO easy to run into burnout and creative “blocks”. As weird as it sounds, I make sure to prioritize time OFF from working to really recharge and refresh my mind and body. If I am not in a good space mentally, I cannot bring myself to really get creative and make something fun using hair color. I feel that this concept really applies to anyone in any industry though. If you aren’t taking care of yourself, then that will show in all other aspects of your life, especially your work. Always make time for yourself and enjoy being you!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a Lakeland-based Hairstylist and Make-up Artist. I started my career in 2018, and have been slaying the hair game ever since. I specialize in vivid hair colors and balayage, those are definitely my two favorite services to offer! I own and operate Saturnine Studio, I small salon suite in Lakeland, Florida. I love bringing my clients’ fun hair ideas to life, no matter how crazy it is! That’s what keeps my job fun, lol! When I am not in the salon, I am usually at home hanging out with my fiancé and two dogs, playing videogames, or at Disney World.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In order to be successful as a hairstylist, you HAVE to be motivated AND disciplined. When I say this industry is the epitome of “self-made” it REALLY is. No one is going to get people in your chair BESIDES YOU. You have to really believe in yourself, in your skills, and sell yourself to your clientele! You will see a direct correlation between what you put into this career, and what you get out of it. If you put in the work, you will see the rewards. However, no one else can do that besides YOU!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I start to feel overwhelmed, I usually will resort to making a to-do list. Then, I will prioritize the small/easier tasks, and start on those first. I find that doing that, helps me find motivation to accomplish other things I’ve set for myself. Before I know it, the list is completed!
