Meet Bam Hall

We were lucky to catch up with Bam Hall recently and have shared our conversation below.

Bam, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I developed my confidence and self-esteem through the support of my family, especially my Grandmother who always made me feel special. However, my journey to self-confidence wasn’t always smooth. From childhood to adulthood, I faced struggles like comparisons with peers over fashion or feeling self-conscious about my insecurities. With time, I learned to accept myself, embracing my imperfections and caring less about others’ opinions. This self-awareness and self-acceptance have significantly boosted my confidence over the years.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

In my life and work, I’m deeply involved in projects that are meaningful and serve others. Currently, I’m in a great place. I just wrapped up Season 2 of the highly anticipated Amazon Prime thriller “Cross,” based on the James Patterson book series featuring Alex Cross. In the show, I play the principal at Alex Cross’s son’s prestigious private school. I smile as I say this, because I take pride in this role, as representation of Black men in leadership positions is rare. I hope to serve as an example for young men who look like me, showing them that we belong in these spaces. Be sure to tune in for the premiere on November 14th to check out Principal Brock!

In addition to my acting work, I’m nearing completion of my first book. I’m co-authoring it with two close friends, and it focuses on fatherhood, sharing our wisdom with our sons and other young men who have grown up in single-parent households without consistent male guidance. This book not only outlines core values and principles for navigating manhood but also celebrates the dedicated fathers who tirelessly work to provide their families with a strong foundation in life. It’s truly an honor to collaborate on this project with brothers I’ve shared two decades of experiences—both ups and downs.

Moreover, I founded a nonprofit organization called B.A.M. Basketball & Mentorship. This initiative uses basketball as a tool to inspire and empower young individuals through skill training and life mentorship. Our mission is to cultivate self-assurance, resilience, and success among youth by fostering confidence, instilling winning mentalities, and developing quality citizens.

I’ve dedicated much of this year to building a community of like-minded families, all committed to uplifting the next generation of young men. It’s an incredible feeling to combine two of my passions: the game of basketball and empowering people, especially youth.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

In my journey, three qualities have been particularly impactful: authenticity, confidence, and effective communication.

First and foremost, being authentically yourself is crucial. Embracing your uniqueness allows you to navigate challenges with clarity and purpose. Many people tend to conform to societal expectations or seek validation from others, but I’ve found that true success comes from being genuine. When you are authentic, you naturally attract like-minded individuals who share your values and principles.

Confidence is another key quality. I often emphasize the importance of self-belief to my children because confidence empowers you to pursue your goals, even when faced with doubt or skepticism from others. When you believe in yourself, you create an environment where others can also believe in you, which opens doors and opportunities.

Finally, effective communication is essential. The way you engage with others and handle conflicts can significantly influence outcomes. Developing strong communication skills helps foster understanding and collaboration, which are vital in any journey.

Additionally, this is the most important impact in my journey, nurturing a Spiritual relationship with the HIGHER POWER has been fundamental to my growth. my connection with GOD provides clarity and guidance, helping me navigate life’s challenges with faith and resilience. Understanding that everything happens for a greater purpose allows me to face adversity with grace.

Together, these qualities have shaped my path and continue to guide me in my personal and professional endeavors.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

I’m a self help and psychological book reader. I’m always looking for ways to improve and help other’s. I strongly believe that the vibration you lead with, you will have reciprocated. Robin Sharma books like “The 5am Club”, “The Leader who had no title”, and “The Everyday Hero Manifesto” are some of my favorites. I read books that fills my spirit. I enjoy reading anything, I feel you can always walk away with some knowledge from anything you read, even if you don’t fully agree with the entire book. But I enjoy authors like James Baldwin, Eckhart Tolle, Dan Tillman, Nikole Hanna-Jones, James Allen, Paulo Coelho, Neville Goddard, Napoleon Hill and many other authors. They all had an impact on shaping my perspective in life and leveling up my way of thinking.
