We were lucky to catch up with Bani Singh recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Bani, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and self-esteem have been nurtured through two main influences:
Supportive Family Foundation: I am fortunate to have parents who always encouraged me and never imposed limits on my aspirations. Their unwavering belief in my abilities and constant support laid the groundwork for my confidence and self-assuredness from a young age.
Embracing the Learning Process: I am generally not afraid of failing and recognize that initial attempts are often below average. By giving the process its due time and setting realistic expectations, I focus on continuous improvement rather than immediate perfection. This mindset, centered on the value of practice and growth, has significantly contributed to building my self-esteem.”
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a career coach and help immigrants land their dream job in Canada.
Backstory
I came to Canada in 2019 as an international student and pursued my Master’s of Management from the Schulich School of Business.
My first role was that of a Project Leader at a big pharma company. But I realized that I didn’t want to be in that role or industry for 40 years of my life. So, I switched my role and got a govt. job as a Social Media Marketer for Ontario Govt.
Starting Immigrant Ninja Career Coaching
I am a huge advocate of experimentation and not giving up until you find the role that you really like. I quit my govt. job back in 2023 to focus on my venture Immigrant Ninja full-time.
I am proud to say that we’ve helped immigrants land $15.97M in job offers.
The most gratifying aspect of the work is the impact that I am able to make.
It feels so good when someone is able to get out of a minimum wage job/toxic workplace and get the field job and the salary that they deserve.
1. Their life changes for good.
2. As a result of getting their field job, they get to focus on other life goals, pursue their dreams, and have the money & time to spend on their hobbies.
3. Not to forget that they can finally take responsibility of their house and also give back to their parents.
4. They no longer are anxious or have sleepless nights thinking about their future.
5. They finally get a job where their potential is getting fulfilled.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Taking risks
-Taking the risk to come to a new country without having any close friends or relatives here.
-Had I not quit my pharma job, I would have never landed the govt. job that I loved.
-Had I not quit my govt. job, I would not have been a full-time entrepreneur (which I am loving!)
2. Sales
-Ability to sell yourself in the interview
-Ability to negotiate your job salary and get paid more
-Ability to influence people to do the right thing
3. Social Media
-I was able to quit my job only because I started creating content back in 2019. Through this, I learned marketing, articulation. and creating an audience.
Advice
1. Don’t be afraid to take risks. The worst thing that can happen is that you can go back to your old job/country/etc. And that’s not bad at all! Atleast you won’t have the regret of not trying.
2. Even if you are not working in a sales role, you should know how to articulate the value you bring to the table.
3. Start with the platform that you can stick to + one that has your target audience. Your first video will be terrible, make it anyway. Only if you start will you reach to the 50th or the 100th video which will be good!
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
Instilling a positive mindset in me and making me believe in myself.
They never said that I can’t do something just because I am a girl.
They didn’t use negative language saying that I can’t achieve my goals or dreams.
They encouraged me to dream big!
