Meet Barb Lamb

We were lucky to catch up with Barb Lamb recently and have shared our conversation below.

Barb, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

Generosity if one of my core values. Being generous with your time, talent, love and money to lift up others in life is so rewarding, and is a choice. I grew up in a household where the answer always was “we can’t afford that.” or “no, you can’t do that.” Compromise, understanding the needs of others, and simple kindness leads to generosity as an everyday expression. Awareness of others, and a simple complement or sincere thank you goes a long way in society.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am thankful everyday for working actively in the food industry as consultant and problem solver. The industry is ever-changing and feeds my soul through my work with amazing business owners. Specialty food is a passion, each brand acting a puzzle. My job is to determine the missing pieces, such as distribution, co-manufacturing, or the true-cost pricing model. The goal being growth to a national scale, while keeping the product/recipe true to the person who created it.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I have worked in the food industry for 14 years, and every product is it’s own story. From the recipe, to the environment it lives in (fridge, freezer, shelf-stable), to the passion behind it’s creation. No one creates their own specialty food brand if they are not completely committed to it’s success. The work and hours are demanding, and love fuels that. My core values include integrity, empowerment of others, and connection. These skills allow me to work along a brand as part of their team to create growth.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

At Big Spoon Co, we are actively collaborate with brands across our portfolio to create new food products. An example: AR’s Hot Honey is currently an ingredient added in a scone made by Two and a Half Irishmen. Both brands benefit and cross-promote the product. We are currently looking for distributors for our regional brands so they can expand their offerings across the US. Big Spoon is happy to assist on our end to coordinate this effort.
