We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Barbara Edwards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Barbara, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I feel I was born to be generous . I have all my life enjoyed helping others. As a teen ager I use to help a older lady mop her floors and clean ,that has followed me into my adult life. Being generous comes very easy with me but i have learned how to control my generosity. Their has been times I given all I had and more. With age comes wisdom ,l learned that their are takers and they will never give support or anything. My Belief Is By Helping Other’s You Are Helping Yourself And Your Family.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Excited That I’m A Ten Year Triple Negative Breast Cancer Thriver. Out Of My Journey With Cancer I Started A Nonprofit Organization That Assist Those Going Through Cancer With Resources And Referrals In Underserved Communities. My Journey With Cance And All The Treatments Opened Up Mind To The Extent That I See Art In A Simple Leaf On The Ground. I’m Creating Beautiful Art To Inspire Other’s To Be Kind To Each Other. I Spent About Nine Months In The Art Studio Creating A Be Kind Art Collection Represented In,English ,Spanish,French,And Mandarin. Also I Created A Male And Female Breast Cancer Awareness Art Collection. All The Art Is Abstract And Only One Of It’s Kind.. The Funds From The Sale Of The Art Goes As A Donation To RMT Inc,And It’s Tax Deductable. My Desire Is For Our World To Be A Better Place And If Each One Of Us Do Our Part We Can Make A Difference. My Legacy Is I Helped Other’s ,Put Smiles On Their Faces And Made A Impact On Their Life By Meeting Them ,Speaking With Me Over The Phone,Or Enjoy Some Of My Original Art. RMT Inc Will Host It’s First Men’s Health Expo In Collaboration With The City Of Dallas, Hiawatha Williams Recreation Center ,Dallas Human Health Service’s And More June 24th,2023. We Are Going To Uplife And Support Our Men In A Underserved And Disadvantaged Community. Men Are Often Overlooked At Most Health Fairs. I’m EXCITED!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One Of My Best Qualities Is I Smile Almost All The Time ,And My Personality Is Contagious And Powerful. Most People That Meet Me Never Forget Meeting Me. The Faith I Have In God Is The Number One Quality That Keep Me Grounded No Matter What Comes My Way. I Learned As A Young Girl That I Had To Have Confidence In Myself. I Learned To Walk Into A Room Full Of People Not Like Me And Feel That When I Walked In I Command The Room ,I Walk With Pride And Feel Stunning At All Times Even In My Workout Attire. Even As A Senior Citizen When I Walk Into A Room People Notice Me Or The Way I Carry Myself. I Was Told By My Father That I Could Do Anything And Then The Word Of God Seals It That I Can Do Anything And I Believe That. My Advice To Anyone Is To First Believe In Yourself No Matter What And Keep Moving Forward In Life. When The Storms Of Life Comes Understand That Don’t Last Forever.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My Dear Mother Words Of Wisdom Has Carried Me Through Some Tough Times When People Have Done Me Wrong Or Didn’t Do What Was Right. She Advised Her Children Never To Mistreat ,Or Do Wrong To Any One On Purpose,Because One Day That Same Person May Have To Help You Or Yours! -Frances My Father Jerry Told My Sister’s And I We Were Beautiful ,Never Let A Man Treat Us Less Than The Way He Treated Us,With Pride And Love.
