Meet Barbara Kamba-Nyathi

We recently connected with Barbara Kamba-Nyathi and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Barbara, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My resilience is borne from the many experiences in my life journey. As someone who has autoimmune disease, one of the vital lessons I learnt early on in my childhood was that when ever I allowed the pain to bring me down, I opened up doors for more pain and discomfort. Thus, deciding to take the pain moments as my body communicating the need to rest and replenish made me resilient. As I grew I practiced that life lesson to in every other aspect of my being; be it professional, health, social, and relational. For example, if a relationship starts to feel like a burden, it’s time to reflect and have the conversation about the way forward, or if a project i’m working on stops being enjoyable, I know it time to breath and assess and re-strategise. As someone who has been blessed with a million second chances by the ancestors, God and the universe; from living with autoimmune disease, surviving cancer, 14 surgical operations, a swollen gland in the brain, divorce, three heart attacks, abuse, living with a disability; resilience is not just my middle name but the modus operandi of my life.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a multi award winning entrepreneur, author, emotional and mental health healer, inspirational speaker and lifestyle coach. I am an eclectic psychotherapist with a passion for generational and inner child trauma healing. I know what it’s like to be stripped of everything — who you thought you were, people you thought would be in your life forever, your prized possessions… On my journey, I’ve survived cervical cancer, endometriosis, a hysterectomy, a divorce, abuse, three cardiac arrests, deafness, a swollen gland in the brain and even living with an autoimmune disease and a disability. Each challenge came with its own set of lessons, but I’ve continually seen the power that comes with redefining and rebuilding your identity on your own terms. I have made it my life work to create space for this transformation for those searching for a better way to be, and Bold Dialogue is a manifestation of that purpose. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

For me it was knowing that I was showing up for my future self who happens to be this current me today, therefore I could not afford to let her down. I was intentional about breaking the cycle of generational trauma and poverty, thus I have kept my eyes on the goal of building generational wealth and healing. I learnt early on in life that I am never a victim of any situation hence being mindful of the narrative I choose for myself and my life.

To those early on their journey remember mentorship and coaching will take you further than you ever imagined. Commitment and smart working are also crucial for your success.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My late mother taught me to live the talk. She dedicated her life to pursuing her heart’s desires by working smart, showing up and being extremely creative. She literally made marmalade with the lemons life gave her and then sold it to make money out of the lemons. She also taught me that I am responsible for the choices I make and no matter the time, a day will always come when I will reap the fruits of my choices. That was very empowering for me, it made me intentional about how I live my life.
