Meet Barbara Lager

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Barbara Lager. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Barbara below.

Hi Barbara , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

For me when I think of self-confidence and cultivating it, the most important step is to say YES finding the courage inside myself and acting upon it. That act alone it’s huge. What I’m truly saying to myself in that moment is I can move past any obstacle, even without having all the answers. I learn to free-fall, taking steps forward without knowing exactly what lies ahead. The more I’ve said yes to obstacles, dreams and aspersions the fuller and richer my life has become. Building my muscle of self-confidence is a muscle that never stops growing. There have been many wisdom keys that have appear through my yeses, which have opened doors in magical ways along my journey. Just because I had the courage to say yes, nobody could do it for me!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Recently, I became a Certified Practitioner in Sound and Vibrational Healing, and I’m very excited to share this work with the world.

From September 27 – November 15, 2025, my piece of “Stories Along the Mississippi “will be on exhibit, in the Kaleidoscope IV Show at the Burl Gallery in St. Paul, MN.

My husband, Daniel Lager — a wonderful artist — and I will also be co-participating in the St. Paul Art Crawl, October 10–12, at our resident Lager Gallery, where we’ll be exhibiting our artwork.

In addition, my book Breathing in Beauty: Poetry and Uplifting Sayings is available in numerous stores across the country as well as on Amazon.

I am grateful for all my creative endeavors. Each one builds a bridge of love, creating a path for my soul to walk home.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My enthusiastic tenacity drives me to look at each project with an insatiable curiosity for discovering how to make it work at its very best. With self-reliance and an optimistic outlook, I trust that everything will work out. I believe that I already have what it takes, and each pursuit
is an opportunity to fuel my passion-strengthening my self-reliance along the way.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

The most impactful person in my life has been my mother, Mama Mae. She faced many obstacles, living with MS and bound to her wheelchair and bed for most of my life, yet she never let that define her. She always told me I could be and do whatever I wanted in this lifetime. Mama Mae was the wind beneath my wings—her love unconditional, her strength unwavering. From her, I learned courage and self-reliance, lessons that have carried me through everything in life. She had a gift for seeing beauty in the world and sharing kind words with everyone she met along her journey. Truly, there wasn’t a person who didn’t love her. Her spirit has been my barometer in life—guiding me, inspiring me, and reminding me always to live with love, resilience, and grace. My deepest wish is to embody these same qualities in my life—for my beautiful family and friends, through my art, and in all of my quests, both those that have come to life and those still waiting in the ethers.
