Hi Barbie, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My strong work ethic stems from a foundation built in my youth. Back in the late 1980s, the value of hard work was ingrained in me. I remember the excitement of applying for my first job at a restaurant on my 16th birthday!

Later, in vocational school, our program required on-the-job experience. I’d juggle school mornings with work afternoons, and by my senior year, I was an assistant manager at a jewelry store. This experience propelled me further, leading to a promotion after graduation and a floating regional manager role overseeing multiple locations for the next 3 years.

Those early experiences instilled valuable lessons: the importance of training, responsible management like handling payroll, and the core principle of “you get what you put in.” This philosophy has stuck with me ever since. I approach every job with the mentality of running my own small business, constantly striving to do my best.

While some seek cosmetic treatments and aesthetics, many simply want targeted advice and answers that fit their unique needs. They say the little things make a big difference, and that’s definitely true in business! In my journey, I’ve found three key areas that have been instrumental in building my reputation:

Advice for early-stage professionals: Develop a system for consistently checking your work and meeting deadlines. Proactive communication is key – keep your clients informed and address potential issues head-on.

Marketing Expertise: Leveraging my decades of experience as a marketing director for a multi-location international business, I have honed my content marketing, SEO, and customer acquisition skills. This foundation fueled my success as a successful entrepreneur and content marketing strategist, helping beauty brands with a comprehensive suite of digital marketing services.

Advice for early-stage professionals:  In marketing, find the niche that sparks your passion. Once you have a niche in mind, embrace trial and error. The key is to learn, adapt, and refine your approach constantly. You can’t be everything to everyone, so honing in a specific niche allows you to penetrate that market and help your client through effective marketing approaches.

Leveraging Past Experience: Working as a marketing director for a global business provided me with a deep understanding of running my own business, specifically the marketing side. Those years equipped me with a valuable skill set that I’ve applied to build and grow my own business.

Advice for early-stage professionals: Never underestimate the value of past experiences, even if they weren’t directly related to your desired field. Look for transferable skills that you can apply to your current position.
