Meet Barry Marz

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Barry Marz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Barry below.

Barry, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
For self-care, I first and foremost trust in God and pray everyday. My relationship with The Lord is the most special relationship I have, and all my other relationships are filtered through Christ. Without The Holy Spirit, I would be very lost. Secondly, I meditate every morning. Meditation has changed my life from the inside out. “Meditation is the connection. Prayers the conversation” is a lyric of mine, and it’s very true. Thirdly, I speak to myself beautifully. The first two self-care regimens I mentioned strengthen my relationship with myself. A habit I’ve just started is looking in the mirror and telling myself positive things. It makes the day much better. Lastly, I commit myself to things that are of God (love, happiness, positivity, progress, triumph, etc.) All the things I’ve mentioned work in perfect tandem with each other.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Peace and Blessings to those taking the time to read this article. My name is Barry Marz. I’m a Spoken Word Poet, Vocalist and Music Producer among many other gifts. I’m from Fairfax, VA by way of Washington, D.C. My journey into Music and Art started from my inception. My Parents played amazing Music in my household and car rides. My Father is a Smooth Jazz Guitarist and Singer who’s experienced minor success in the Music Industry. My Mother is a former Singer, amazing Dancer, and all around good Music enthusiast. Being creative is my birthright. Currently, I’m most excited and focused on being able to help Artists by painting soundscapes for their lyrics through Music Production. It’s so fun! For years, I’ve solely focused on building up my career as a Spoken Word Poet, but I’ve always wanted to Produce Music for talented Artists. In blessed to be in a space where that’s now possible. I’m so happy! The one thing I want people to know about me as an Artist is whether I’m making a beat or doing Spoken Word / Lyricism, there are deep emotions throughout everything I do. My goal is to relay as accurately as possible how I felt in the moment of creation. I strongly believe that my sample selection and my ability to emote has achieved that perfectly.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The one thing I can say to encompass three areas of knowledge, skills, and qualities that were impactful in my journey, as well as advice to those early in their journey is this: Don’t be afraid to learn! Learn everything and as much as you can! My success is solely based off of diligent research, in addition to being in the right crowds, of course. I am a serial learner that absorbs information. It’s a definite God given gift of mine, and without it, I wouldn’t have been as successful as I am. Some learners are visual, and some audible. I happen to be an audiovisual learner. When I see and hear things, I commit them to memory, instantly. You can develop this skill by reading books, articles, watching documentaries, informative YouTube videos, and so much more. The smarter you become, the smarter you’ll become. Allow your Intuitive Thought, Common Sense, and intellect to work together for you. Never be afraid to show your intelligence in the right situation! The key phrasing in that would be, “the right situation”. Lastly, make sure to be around people who nurture these things. Any jealous, evil and envious soul has got to go! They have no place in your life and they’ll only bring you down.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
This is an amazing question! I spoke with a young friend of mine about this very question. To answer this question, yes, I’m always looking for new, positive and genuine souls to collaborate with. I am a devoted Empath, so I can tell when something is setup on the strength of opportunism. I back away when I sense it. If you are looking to collaborate with me, understand first and foremost that I love the nature of an organic connection. I enjoy when someone introduces themselves to me, shows love to what I do as an Artist, and then welcomes the opportunity to collaborate. My best example of this is HoodieJIM, who’s on my Independent Record Label, HappyBoyz Records. He made me aware of him and made sure to consistently show me love every chance he gained to do so. He always mentioned that he’d been supporting me for a long time. It was very genuine. Once he asked to join The Label, it was natural for me to say yes. This is an amazing example of how to connect with me if you want to collaborate. I also want to preface that I am only one person, so I won’t be able to collaborate with everyone who reaches out to me, but 100%, whether I respond to you or not depends on the nature of the very first message you send me.
