Meet Bastian Orellana-auri

We were lucky to catch up with Bastian Orellana-auri recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Bastian with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

Coming from a refugee family, work is the only thing that has pushed us forward in life. I’ve learned at a young age, that if you want something in life, you have to work for it. Like many, we were never given anything, which is the reason why I like taking any work problems and solving them. No matter the situation or position, my work ethic has always helped me open more doors and opportunities.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Bastian, I am originally from Chile. I generally focus in film production. Having the privilege of growing up in Canada, I got to meet a lot of people from around the world. My main focus is telling real life stories, focused in Latin Americans. I want to show the beauty of peoples life through the ugly times. The light at the end of the tunnels of countless fascinating stories of Latinos.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Communication skills, not being afraid of talking to strangers and connect with them, this is a huge opportunity to open doors for yourself.

Hard working, know that it is a blessing to do what you do and do it the best way you possibly can.

Listening, I think grabbing all your failures and grabbing them as learning opportunity and not as actual failures is the best way to move forward. Listen to what people have to say about your work and the way you do things.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Always looking for people to work with!
In the film industry especially collaboration is everything. I’m always excited to meet new people from around the world and figuring out how we can work together and make something magical!
