We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Bav Patel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Bav below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Bav with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic is shaped by years of experience in the gym and the discipline of waking up early in the morning. I start my day at 5:30 AM, focused and disciplined. Eating the right foods also contributes to my productivity. I make it a point to write down my tasks and concentrate solely on those.
From a young age, I have always been a creative person with a great passion for art and design. My skills range from brand design to digital design and illustration. As the design field evolves, it’s important to be adaptable and explore and learn different software to enhance my abilities.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a designer based in the UK with a rich background in design and communication, which led me to digital design in the later stages of my career. My true passion lies in illustration, particularly within the vibrant automotive Porsche scene. I specialise in creating compelling automotive art that tells captivating stories about cars, their journeys, and their significance in our modern world. Embracing both classic and modern automobiles, my work reflects a simple yet striking contemporary pop art style, inspired by the lifestyles and memories connected to cars in exotic locations, especially the iconic Porsches.
Automotive illustration is my primary focus, fueled by a passion that brings me both peace and happiness. I remain true to my vision, not allowing myself to be influenced by others who attempt to replicate my style. I create solely for myself and take pride in using my art to support charity campaigns for greater causes, finding joy in knowing my creations can make a positive impact.
Always on the lookout for new ideas and concepts, I adapt my style and have many innovative projects in progress. I am excited to collaborate with fashion brands and car manufacturers, while also planning to attend more Porsche events next year, building on my previous experiences in the Middle East, North America, and Brazil. I look forward to continuing my growth with Porsche.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Adaptability – The ability to adapt allowed me to evolve quickly in creative design—whether that meant improving responses based on feedback from my circle of followers and then integrating new ideas
Growth happens outside your comfort zone. Seek projects, roles, or experiences that stretch you.
Learn continuously: Stay curious about emerging trends in designs, new tools, and perspectives. most importantly never give up. always chase your dreams.
Communication
My skill in distilling complex information into clear, accessible responses has enabled me to connect with car enthusiasts. I make it a point to listen to my peers and ask them what they would like me to draw and why. They often share beautiful stories about their cars.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Take a step back from what you’re doing. When I design, I always make it a point to take breaks and spend time on my art. I examine every aspect, from my sketches to the final production.
Break down tasks or concerns into small, manageable steps. Focus on just the next step and keep moving forward. If something goes wrong, it doesn’t matter; your audience will provide feedback.
I try to work with discipline in mind. I read books, go for walks, and even attend car shows—activities related to my job and passions.
