We were lucky to catch up with Beania Tanae recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Beania , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Well… I truly feel like I developed my confidence and self esteem when I moved to GA and joined the cheer team. It was so out of my comfort zone since I was new to the area and didn’t know anybody. Joining that team forced me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I made a bunch of new connections with the girls I met and learned how to push myself physically like never before. Having to practice over and over and over again made our routines and movements like second nature. Every game we showed up and showed out like that’s all that mattered. Being in front of those large cheering crowds, will definitely give you a confidence in yourself that absolutely no one can take away. That confidence stayed with me and developed more and more over time as I discovered my songwriting talent. By the time I started making music, I was already very present and active on social media platforms and had supporters from all of my different phases of life. The main difference now is, I am not part of a team anymore. I am an individual, cheering for myself in front of a world of people… hoping that they will eventually cheer for me too one day.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I say this so much but I will NEVER stop saying it… MUSIC IS LIFE!!! I eat, sleep, and breathe music because without it I wouldn’t be where I am today. Music has gotten me through some very tough and dark moments in my life and for that I am forever grateful for that blessing. Once I realized the significance a single song can hold, I figured I should try to signify my own experiences. Majority of the songs I write come from the most genuine place in my heart. Every emotion you hear is an emotion I’ve felt or am currently feeling. I hope when people listen to my music, they feel the vibes that were meant to be captured. That way, my music can maybe be that light in the dark for them when they need it most.
I’ve been planning out my next project for a while now, but I’ve been dropping singles here and there in the meantime. I want this next project to be on a different level. You know when your favorite artist drops a fire project, and you listen to the whole thing over and over on repeat for days? I want that! I want people to wake up with the melodies and beats playing in their heads and be like “Yeah, I need to listen to that right now!” Hopefully that’s what the future holds. Stay tuned!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The first thing I had to learn was to not be so standoffish with people you don’t know. It’s okay to get to know people and give them a chance to show you who they are. Coming from Detroit, I was a bit more reserved and to myself. It took me a while to come out of that bubble and make real connections with new people. You never know who somebody is or who they could become. Also, people just enjoy good energy and vibes. If you give good vibes instead of negative ones, you’re more likely to get them in return.
Another thing I’ve had to learn was to be open to new experiences. It’s easy to get comfortable doing something a certain way or only going to one specific person for something. It is soooo important to branch out and broaden your horizons ALWAYS! Just because the engineer you’re used to has never disappointed you, doesn’t mean you can’t go book with a new engineer that seems like he does things a bit differently. For all you know, you may like that way better. But you’ll never know if you never try.
The last thing I’ll say is it is ultra important for you to not be afraid of being you. This one is something I honestly still struggle with sometimes. Embracing all the crazy, boring, weird, sad, or dark thoughts and feelings is okay and actually healthy. Get comfortable with yourself because you’re the only one that has to deal with you for the rest of your life. Make that tik tok! Post that reel! Upload the YouTube vlog! Show up to that performance and sing like nobody’s listening! It’s your world!
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am definitely looking to collaborate with more talented artists! Singers and rappers of all genres, honestly. I love how I discover a new side of my creativity when I work with someone who makes a different vibe of music than I do. My business email is located in the bio of my Instagram page and I check it every day. If ANYONE would like to make some greatness with me I would be honored to collab with them.
