Meet Becktoria

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Becktoria. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Becktoria below.

Becktoria, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

It took me a really long time to develop my confidence and self-love. I had a spiritual awakening in my early 30s after visiting a Balinese healer who channels Shiva. Just from that first visit, I experienced a change in my mindset which led me on a self-healing journey. I was lost and depressed for over a decade and dealt with insecurities and self-doubt. Happiness was something I always wanted and I finally allowed myself to embrace it and be kind to myself. I realized I didn’t need anyone else’s approval or validation. I think a lot of the confidence and self-esteem comes from self-acceptance and inner happiness. Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way and once you see that in yourself, the rest follows.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a singer/songwriter in Los Angeles. I originally grew up in England but moved to L.A. in 2012 to pursue a career in music. It’s been quite the journey and I’m proud of myself for taking a leap of faith to do something I’m passionate about. My musical journey started off with pop/electropop songs, but since I’m also classically trained, I love infusing classical elements into my vocals and production. Right now, I’m more focused on interweaving EDM and classical music with heavier production and minimal lyrics. One thing I love about music is the songwriting process. Whether the inspiration for those songs comes from personal experience or is more based in fantasy, I get to connect with others that relate to my music. My songs have also charted on several notable music charts and have been played on major radio stations across the United States. I’ve done collaborations internationally as well that led to my songs being signed by renowned record labels and publishing companies. I am currently working on two new EPs, “Raveland” and “Dreamland”, and am excited to explore a new genre.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I’ve always loved learning and experiencing new things. I think my curiosity is what keeps me driven and determined. From a young age, I started playing the piano, flute, violin, drums, recorder and studied classical music. I was also a soprano in the school choirs and a pop/jazz singer in the school band, along with being in musical theatre productions. I would say my competitiveness, persistence and my passion for music is what helped me thrive in my career. My advice would be to work on overcoming our fears in life, to continue to push ourselves in anything that we do, and to be curious about learning and expanding our knowledge in the field we choose. I believe that it’s important to allow for grace and aim to be the best versions of ourselves.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed, I like to take a day off or go on a weekend vacation. I like to have fun at the arcade games, dancing, being in nature or in self-isolation. I love being in a quiet place and allowing my body and mind to just rest and do nothing. For me, working on my mental health is an important part of my daily regimen because it helps me focus and create better work when I have a clear and peaceful mind. Surrounding yourself with friends and family and a good support system also helps me get through the tough times. And of course, writing lyrics and unleashing all my emotions into the songs I create also brings me happiness.
