We recently connected with Becky Overbeck and have shared our conversation below.
Becky , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
Up until the age of 30 I had almost no confidence or self esteem. I wasn’t really good at anything, I didn’t have any talents, I didn’t feel beautiful, I didn’t have money.
After having our three daughters in my 20’s, I was feeling particularly self conscious, so I joined a small fitness studio and started taking their classes.
Within a few weeks I was already starting to feel better. I felt stronger and had more energy.
The owner of the fitness studio – Samantha, noticed my excitement and passion, and told me that I needed to become a fitness trainer/instructor and that she would hire me to teach classes at her studio..
So taking her advice, I bought the books, the courses and started the process of becoming a Personal and Group Fitness Trainer.
Increasing my knowledge, strengthening my body, enduring tough workouts, seeing my body change and morph and then helping others do the same all was the first step in developing my confidence and self esteem.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
From 2013 to 2021, our family of five ran a Fitness Studio called the Babe Cave.
We poured everything into it.
Time, energy, money, love! In 2018 we built a massive new studio to best accommodate our clients. But then March of 2020 the pandemic hit, and forced our gym closed. We were closed almost all of 2020, and had very little income coming in. So we made the decision to sell everything, our home, cars, all the fitness equipment etc packed a suitcase each and started over in Hawaii.
While our gym was closed we had switched over to offering online fitness classes and online training. So this is what we did from Hawaii.
Over the last 4 years we have had the opportunity to travel and live in Vancouver, Canada, on two different islands of Hawaii, and most recently we have spent the last year living in Southern California.
We are waiting on our green cards, and looking forward to soon being back in Hawaii!
In 2025 I have been focusing on content creation and brand collaborations more than ever and am really enjoying that.
I want to continue working with top notch brands, and continue growing my social media.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My husband always tells me that anyone can write a workout, anyone can be a fitness trainer, but in his mind what made me successful is that I really care for people.
I will do pretty much anything to help others succeed, and help them reach their goals.
People can tell when you actually care, and that means a lot. They’re not just a number, not just a pay cheque.
Passion is another one. Find something that you are really passionate about. Something you love, something you would do whether you were paid or not.
That is the thing you will most likely be successful doing.
Whatever you’re doing, make it fun.
People are usually drawn to things that they enjoy. So make it enjoyable. A fun, light atmosphere.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes I am definitely looking to collab with top notch brands. I’ve been creating content for the last 13 years, and love it.
I’ve worked with some really great brands mainly in fitness and health.
I would love to branch out into more travel and adventure as well.
