Meet Bedford Towers

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bedford Towers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Bedford, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

From wanting to have the freedom from working a conventional job and wanting to have a book of my photography in every bookstore in the country.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Matthew Montella but I use the artist name bedfordtowers. I was born and raised in Scranton Pennsylvania and have been living in New York City for the past couple years. All of my photographs are shot on film. I have a deep passion for film photography.
For the past year (2024) I have been working very hard to get my photography zines into any book store that I can. I reached fifteen. This year (2025) I plan on doubling that.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Patience
Adaptive
Observant

I think that it’s important not to create for the sake of an algorithm or perceived deadline. Some things take time, some happen over time and it’s impossible to know which path you’ll fall into. There’s nothing wrong with a slow burn. If it doesn’t happen overnight give it time and chip away at it slowly.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

Put down what you’re doing and move your body. Go for a walk or do something to remove yourself from what you’re working on. Tunnel vision is scary.
