Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bellydance By Jennifer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Bellydance By Jennifer, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I have always been a glass-is-half-full type of person. I feel my optimism comes from my mindset of abundance. There is opportunity everywhere, and the only thing standing in our way is ourselves. While others may see hurdles in their way, I see opportunities for growth, adventure, and experiences. No one is perfect, so I give the benefit of the doubt and choose to hope for the best. I allow people’s decisions and actions to inform whether they are a fit or not.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In my role as a bellydancer, it all started with taking one class that helped me make friends, find more confidence, and use my musical background to make the music come to life in a new way. I focus on providing bellydance entertainment for events, connecting with the dance community, and co-producing an annual event called the O-Town Bellydance Intensive that brings Middle Eastern business owners, lovers of raqs sharqi, and Arts enthusiasts together for a beautiful dance experience. Join us September 19- 21, 2025, in Orlando!
I also host a podcast, “Let’s Talk: Bellydance”, that serves as a resource for dancers from all walks of life to listen and gain new perspectives on deep issues in the industry.
No matter what I am up to, it is all about connecting with people (the humans behind it all) and celebrating this beautiful Art form.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Having a tough skin, which I earned from being a competitive musician and then being critiqued weekly as an Art major in college. My blunt and honest family members were also helpful here.
2. Marketing skills, which I gained from my daytime job in agencies and later on consulting. Working in agencies taught me about customer service, project management, leadership, and making impactful decisions.
3. Discipline: nothing came easily. When you want results, consistency and discipline are key to providing a high caliber of service and skill that is above average.
If you are a dancer who is early in your journey, I recommend that you work with a mentor to help you gain deeper insights, provide feedback, and expedite your success. Have patience and remember to rest and recharge.
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is a discerning person who enjoys luxury, quality, and nuance. My bellydance shows, products, and services all cater to those who appreciate deeper meaning, context, and performance. I cater to Middle Eastern, North African, and Hellenistic audiences who have grown up with or been exposed to the dances from these regions.
My ideal client is also easy to work with, communicative, and appreciative.
