Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Berk Studios (Veronica Baty). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Berk , we are so deeply grateful to you for opening up about your journey with mental health in the hops that it can help someone who might be going through something similar. Can you talk to us about your mental health journey and how you overcame or persisted despite any issues? For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.
Working in the creative space can be challenging when you have mental health struggles with high highs and low lows. Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of the world with every opportunity available and other times I feel very isolated and alone in the creative space. One of the things that helps me a lot is not comparing myself to what I see on social media. Social media is a highlight reel and sometimes we forget that in regular life but even more in the creative space because you see a better camera or a higher quality production and get down on yourself. Focus on perfecting and finding what is best for you in the path. I also find that downtime is extremely important. On days where you are low or down on yourself taking time for self care or stepping away from that film, painting, writing etc. is going to benefit you greatly in the long run.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Berk Studios is a small but driven film production team founded by veterans who have carried the values of discipline, teamwork, and resilience into the creative world. At the heart of our work is our director, a talented female filmmaker whose vision pushes us to tell stories with honesty and boldness. Together, we are passionate about creating films that are not only visually powerful but also emotionally impactful.
What excites us most about our work is the opportunity to merge diverse perspectives. Our military backgrounds, our artistic voices, and our shared belief in the power of storytelling into projects that resonate with audiences. We see filmmaking not just as entertainment, but as a platform to spark dialogue, challenge norms, and spotlight voices that don’t always get the microphone.
Most recently, we’ve produced two short films we’re especially proud of. “Girl Crush” explores themes of desire and self-discovery with a raw, intimate lens, while our newest project, “Reflected in Blood”, leans into horror, using suspense and atmosphere to confront ideas of identity and fear. Both projects represent the wide range of stories we’re committed to telling and the emotional depth we strive to bring to the screen.
As we grow, we’re excited to continue building a slate of short films and indie projects for festivals and digital platforms. One of the most special aspects of our brand is our ability to produce professional-quality work on a lean budget, proving that passion and creativity can outshine even the biggest resources. For us, it’s not just about making films. It’s about building a creative family and leaving behind stories that matter.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’d say the three most Important qualities would have to be collaboration, empathy and understanding. It’s very important to listen to your team because someone may have a better idea than you came up with and without listening, you’ll be missing out.

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Our biggest area of growth this past year has been finding our voice as a production company. With Girl Crush and Reflected in Blood, we’ve proven our ability to tell bold stories on a lean budget while sharpening our creative process. We’ve also grown as a team, learning to collaborate more effectively and lean into each other’s strengths, which has made our work stronger and more unified. We’re always looking for more artists to work with and more opportunities down the line for growth and development.
