Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Bernadette Gold. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Bernadette, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
How I Overcame Imposter Syndrome
I still remember the first time I felt like a complete fraud—as if the world would soon discover I wasn’t nearly as capable as I appeared. I’d stepped into a leadership role that demanded more than I’d ever managed before, and no matter how much I prepared, I couldn’t shake the persistent voice telling me I didn’t belong. That insidious voice is imposter syndrome: the fear you’ll be exposed for not measuring up.
Over time, I realized it strikes hardest precisely when you’re pushing the limits of your comfort zone—when you’re on the cusp of growth. Although it can feel paralyzing, it can also reveal where you need to heal and stretch. Here’s how I broke free:
Admitting What Was Happening
The first turning point was naming the problem. I told myself: “I’m dealing with imposter syndrome right now.” By calling it out, I took away its secrecy and some of its power.
Documenting Small Triumphs
I began keeping a short list of daily wins: finishing a challenging project, receiving genuine thanks from a client, or even managing to remain calm in a tough situation. Seeing these victories on paper reminded me I was far more capable than my doubts would admit.
Identifying Ego Programs and Negative Subconscious Beliefs
Over the years, I’ve come to specialize in recognizing hidden “ego programs” and the negative subconscious beliefs that feed imposter syndrome. Realizing that many of my fears stemmed from old, outdated scripts—like “I need another degree before I can lead” or “I must be perfect to succeed”—helped me dismantle them. Once I saw they were just mental leftovers, I could rewrite them into more supportive truths.
Reaching Out to Trusted Mentors and Trusted Peers
Confiding in people who truly understood me was a lifesaver. Often, they pointed out strengths I couldn’t see in myself because I was so caught up in self-criticism. Their compassion and encouragement challenged me to stand in my power. That outside perspective was invaluable.
Redefining Success on My Own Terms
It took time, but I finally realized “success” wasn’t about flawless performance or non-stop hustle. I could still be a high achiever and respect my own pace. Trusting my intuition—rather than sacrificing myself to perfection—brought me genuine fulfillment.
Ultimately, learning to spot and untangle ego programs taught me that imposter syndrome can be a compass pointing toward growth. Each time I confront it—by acknowledging my fears, reframing outdated beliefs, and leaning on supportive peers—I emerge more aligned with who I truly am. Now, I help others do the same, so they can leap past self-doubt, step into their unique strengths, and become the empowered leaders they’re meant to be. Because once you stop letting that small voice of insecurity hold you back, you find a bolder, braver version of yourself waiting to shine.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I can see that three core qualities ignited the deepest shifts in my life:
1. Self-Awareness
For a long time, I felt like my world was spinning out of control—until I realized my outer chaos often mirrored what was happening inside me. By paying closer attention to my thoughts and emotional reactions, I uncovered subconscious beliefs that were driving my behaviors. This new clarity felt like a floodlight piercing the darkness: I finally saw where I was stuck and why.
Advice: Start each day with a brief, honest check-in. Ask yourself, “What’s weighing on my mind? Which moments made my heart soar or sink?” Even jotting down a few lines in a journal helps reveal hidden patterns and begin the healing process.
2. Emotional Intelligence
I used to suppress my emotions, convinced they were obstacles to productivity or success. In truth, they were my greatest teachers. When I embraced anger or fear as signals—rather than roadblocks—it changed everything. I learned to pause, name what I was feeling, and explore the reasons behind it. This shift gave me power instead of panic.
Advice: When strong emotions flare up, take a single, intentional breath. Name the feeling—“I’m angry,” “I’m anxious,” or “I’m thrilled”—then gently ask, “What is this emotion telling me?” Over time, you’ll nurture an unshakeable emotional foundation that supports your growth, rather than undermines it.
3. Commitment to Growth (Even When It’s Uncomfortable)
Real transformation didn’t happen in times of ease; it happened when I leaned into discomfort—whether I was tackling a new role at work or confronting painful childhood wounds. Each time I pushed beyond the familiar, I discovered a piece of myself I didn’t know existed. There were tears, anxiety, and vulnerability, but on the other side was renewed strength and authenticity.
Advice: Pinpoint one area you’ve been avoiding—maybe it’s a tough conversation or a creative project that scares you—and commit to taking a brave, small step forward. Surround yourself with people who uplift you or seek guidance from someone who’s been there. Yes, it might feel daunting, but each step through discomfort is a step closer to a richer, more fearless version of you.
Ultimately, these three qualities—Self-Awareness, Emotional Intelligence, and a Commitment to Growth—helped me break through barriers I once thought were impenetrable. The journey wasn’t always smooth, but each moment of courage opened new doors. If you’re just beginning, remember that every small act of self-reflection, every pause to name your feelings, and every brave step into the unknown can spark a life-changing transformation. Keep going—you’ll be amazed at how strong you really are.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I’m always eager to connect with professionals who share my passion for empowering high achievers but bring complementary expertise. Specifically, I’m looking to collaborate with:
Coaches and Consultants who focus on leadership development, productivity, or business strategy but don’t specialize in deep emotional healing or holistic personal transformation.
Content Creators, Podcasters, and Media Outlets interested in interviewing me or featuring my work, so we can collectively inspire ambitious individuals seeking a more balanced, aligned approach to success.
Referral Partners—such as therapists, financial advisors, executive recruiters, or other service providers—who often encounter high achievers in need of the deeper mindset and emotional breakthroughs I provide.
My goal is to create win-win partnerships where we cross-promote our services, share valuable insights, and ultimately uplift the clients and communities we serve. By collaborating, we can offer a more complete toolkit for high performers, helping them thrive in every aspect of life while keeping our individual strengths front and center.
